Navajo Belt Pattern #2382

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 1 ball of White and 1 ball of contrasting color.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7. or 8.
2 decorative hooks and eyes.
1 yd. grosgrain ribbon, 2 inches wide.

Gauge: 10 d c make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch. (Each individual square indicates 3 d c.)

These directions are for a 28-inch belt. Starting at center front, with contrasting color ch 23. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across (21 d c, counting turning ch as 1 d c). Drop color, attach White, ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Holding contrasting color along top of 1st row and working over it to conceal it, make d c in next d c, thread over, insert hook in next d c and draw loop through; thread over and draw through 2 loops; drop White, pick up contrasting color and draw through remaining 2 loops. Holding White along top of row and working over it, make d c in each d c to within last 3 d c (counting turning ch as 1 d c ); leaving the last 2 loops of last d c on hook, drop color, pick up White and draw through remaining 2 loops; then make 3 White d c. Ch 3, turn. Starting at 3rd row, follow chart to top (center back), always concealing unused color and changing colors as before. This completes half of belt; to work other half, follow chart back to 1st row. Fasten off.

Line belt with ribbon. Fasten at center front with hooks and eyes.
