Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0.

GAUGE: 1 shell (from sc to sc) measures 1¼ inches; 6 rows measure 2 inches.

Use thread double throughout and work loosely.

Starting at top of snood, make a chain about 18 inches long (4 ch sts to an inch). 1st row: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook (½ shell is made), * skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch (1 shell is made). Repeat from * 2 more times, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch; ch 6, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch (1 loop is made), make 8 more loops, ** skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from ** 2 more times. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 2 dc in 1st sc, sc in center dc of next shell, 5 dc in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell, 8 dc in sc just made, sl st in same sc (a petal is made), shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell, shell in next sc, sc in next loop, make a petal in this sc as before, * ch 6, sc in next loop. Repeat from * 7 more times, make a petal in the last sc made, (shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell) twice, make a petal in sc just made, shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell, shell in next sc, sc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 2 dc in 1st sc, * sc in center of next shell, shell in next sc. Repeat from * ending with sc in 1st loop, make 7 loops across, shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell and continue thus, ending with sc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: 2 dc in 1st sc, (sc in center st of next shell, shell in next sc) twice; sc in center st of next shell, make a petal in this sc, shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell, shell in next sc, sc in next loop, make a petal in sc just made, make 6 loops, make a petal in this last sc, (shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell) twice; make a petal in this last sc, (shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell) twice; make a petal as before, shell in next sc, sc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. Each row begins with ½ shell and ends with a whole shell and sc, unless otherwise specified. 5th row: Work in same manner but without petals (5½ shells, 5 loops, 5 shells). 6th row: 1½ shells, petal, 2 shells, petal, 2 shells, petal, 4 loops, petal, 2 shells, petal, 2 shells, petal, 2 shells. Ch 3, turn. 7th row: Work shells across, having 3 loops in center.
8th row:2½ shells, (petal, 2 shells) 6 times, petal, 1 shell (there are no more loops in this row and hereafter). 9th row: Work shells across (no petals). 10th row: 1½ shells, (petal, 2 shells) 7 times. 11th row: Work shells across (no petals). 12th row: 2½ shells, (petal, 2 shells) 6 times, petal, 1 shell. 13th and 14th rows: Repeat 9th and 10th rows. Omit turning ch at end of 14th row. 15th row: Sl st to center of 1st shell (½ shell decreased), work shells across (no petals), omitting turning ch. 16th row: Sl st to center of 1st shell (½ shell decreased), work 2 shells, petal, and so on across, ending row with 2 shells after the last petal. Turn. Repeat the last 2 rows alternately until 5 shells remain. Fasten off.
Working on foundation chain, attach thread to st where 3rd sc was made, and sc across the 1 shell, the 9 loops and shell following the loops, keeping work flat. Ch 1, turn. Work 3 more rows of sc over sc. Fasten off at end of 4th row.

BAND1st row: Starting at one end, ch 4 and make 4 dc in 4th ch from hook. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 2 dc in 1st dc, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, 5 dc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 3 dc in 1st dc, sc in center of next shell, 5 dc in next sc, sc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: 4 dc in 1st sc, sc in center st of next shell, shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell, 3 dc in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 5th row: 4 dc in 1st sc, sc in center dc of next shell, shell in next sc, sc in center st of next shell, 3 dc in top st of turning ch. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: Sc in 1st dc, shell in next sc, sc in center st of next shell, shell in next sc, sc in center st of next shell, 3 dc in last st. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 6th row until piece measures 10 inches in all. Next row: (Shell in next sc, sc in center st of next shell) twice; 3 dc in top st of turning ch. Turn. Following row: 2 dc in 1st sc, sc in center dc of next shell, shell in next sc, sc in center st of next shell. Turn. Last row: Sl st in next 3 dc, shell in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell. Fasten off.
Sew ends of band to each end of sc-section at top of snood. Tack ends of elastic where ends of band were sewed to snood. Working over elastic make sc along outer edges of snood. Fasten off.
