24 bone rings.

GAUGE: 6½ sts make 1 inch; 3 rows make 1 inch.

Use thread double throughout—1 strand each of White and Ecru.

BASE … With No. 1 hook, make a chain to measure about 10 inches (7 ch sts make 1 inch). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures 8 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece is square. Fasten off.

SIDE PIECE … With No. 1 hook make a chain to measure about 12 inches (7 ch sts make 1 inch). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures 10 inches. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in the front loop of each dc across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in the back loop of each dc across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately for 32 inches. Fasten off.
Make a paper pattern of each crocheted piece and lay them aside to be used later.

FRINGE … Divide side piece in 4 equal parts and mark with pins (8 inches between pins). Fold piece at 1st pin so that ridges are on outside. Attach single thread of contrasting color at fold and work over one ridge as follows: With No. 5 hook sl st in loop of 1st dc, * ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of remaining 9 ch, sl st in same loop where last sl st was made, sl st in loop of next dc. Repeat from * across ridge. Fasten off. Work in same manner at other 2 pins. Then sew the ends together and work fringe in same manner over seam.
Attach double thread, 1 strand each of White and Ecru and with No. 1 hook work 1 row of sc around top of bag. Fasten off. Attach double thread of contrasting color and work 1 more row of sc around top of bag. Fasten off.
To cover bone rings use double thread of contrasting color and with No. 1 hook work sc closely over each ring. Sew rings evenly around bag about 2 inches from top. Sew base in position.

CORD (Make 2) … Cut fourteen 4-yard strands of contrasting color thread. Twist these strands tightly, then double the twisted strands and give them a twist in the opposite direction. After bag is lined run one cord through rings and knot the 2 ends together. Starting at opposite side run the other cord through same rings and knot the ends together as before.
For lining instructions see patternbook page. For extra strength at base place a piece of cardboard between crochet and bag form.
