Let's Hook Diamonds Bag Pattern #2690

Bag measures about 13 inches.

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 3 balls of White, Ecru or Cream, or 5 balls of any color.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 1.
½ yard buckram.
½ yard lining material.

GAUGE: 5 sts make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

Use 3 strands of thread throughout.

Starting at one end, make a chain about 15 inches long (5 sts to an inch). 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 ch, * tr in next ch, sc in next 5 ch. Repeat from * across until row measures 12½ inches ending with 4 sc. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: Sc in 1st sc, d tr in loop formed by the tr on 1st row, * skip the next sc on row in work (this is the sc directly behind the d tr just made), sc in next 5 sc, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr, make a d tr in loop of same tr where last d tr was made, d tr in loop of next tr on 1st row, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a joint d tr is made). Repeat from * across, end­ing with d tr in loop formed by last tr, skip the sc directly behind this d tr, sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 6th, 7th and 8th rows: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 9th row: Sc in first 4 sc, work a joint d tr making 1 d tr under the 1st d tr and the next d tr under the next joint d tr, * skip next sc, sc in next 5 sc, make another joint d tr, having 1 d tr under same joint d tr as the last d tr was made, and the other d tr under next joint d tr. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 10th, 11th and 12th rows: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 13th row: Sc in next sc, d tr under next joint d tr, skip next sc, sc in next 5 sc, make a joint d tr as before and continue thus across, ending with d tr under last joint d tr, sc in last sc. Repeat 6th to 13th rows incl until piece measures 17 inches, ending with the 9th row. Fasten off.
   Cut paper pattern in exact width of crocheted piece but 1½ times as long (this extra length, later on, folds up and forms the inside of the bag). Cut 2 pieces of lining material same size as this pattern and 1 piece of buckram ¼ inch smaller all around than pattern. Cover buckram on both sides following lining instructions on patternbook page. Then fold up 3 of bag form and sew up the two sides with small over-and-over stitches. Sew crocheted piece to outside of bag form all around edges.
