Bag measures about 13 inches.

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. PEARL COTTON, Size 5, 13 balls of White, Ecru or any color.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 1.
3 yard crinoline.
3 yard lining material.
An 8-inch zipper.

GAUGE: 3 shells measure 1 inch; 8 rows measure 1¼ inches.

Starting at top make a chain about 15 inches long (7 ch sts to an inch). 1st row: In 2nd ch from hook make sc, dc and sc (shell is made), * skip 2 ch, shell in next ch. Repeat from * across, until row measures 13 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Make a shell in the last sc of each shell across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 15 inches. Fasten off.

GUSSET (Make 2) … Starting at narrow end, ch 14 and work as for 1st row of bag. Ch 1, turn. Continue working in pattern as for bag, increas­ing 1 shell at both ends of the 3rd row and every 5th row thereafter until piece measures 5 inches deep—to inc a shell at ends of row, make a shell in both 1st and last sc of end shells. Fasten off.

BAND … Ch 15 (to measure about 2 inches). 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each re­maining ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Picking up only back loop of each sc, make sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
   Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 8½ inches long. Fasten off. Make another piece same as this.
   Make a paper pattern for each crocheted piece and lay aside to be used later.

HANDLE … Make a chain 10 inches long. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in each st across. Fasten off. Double this strip and sew together the 2 long sides. Sew ends together and attach handle to zipper. Sew gussets in place. Shirr top to meas­ure 8½ inches.    Shirr bag form to correspond with crocheted bag. Line bands with crinoline and lining material. Sew zipper between bands 1 inch down from top. Sew bands in place at top of bag.
