Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 10

GAUGE: 5 sps make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

CHAIR SET

CHAIR BACK … Starting at the bottom of chart, ch 63. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, and in next 11 ch (13 dc, counting the turning ch). Ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch (sp made). Make 4 more spaces, then work dc in next 6 ch (2 bls made). Make 5 sps, then work dc in next 12 ch. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch (1 bl increased at beginning of row); dc in next 13 dc, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc (bl made over sp). Ch 2, dc in next dc (sp made over sp). Make 2 more sps, 4 bls, 3 sps, 1 bl, dc in next 11 dc, then make a foundation dc as follows: Thread over, insert hook in top st of turning ch and draw a loop through; thread over and draw through 1 loop (1 ch st made, to be used as a foundation st for next dc); complete dc in usual manner. Make 2 more foundation dc, and 1 dc in the usual way (1 bl increased at end of row). Ch 8, turn. 3rd row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 4 ch (2 bls increased); dc in next 7 dc, ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc (sp made over bl). Make 1 more sp, 3 bls, 2 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 3 bls, 2 sps. Make dc in next 5 dc, foundation dc in top st of turning ch, 5 more foundation dc and 1 dc in the usual way (2 bls increased). Ch 8, turn. Starting at 4th row, follow chart until 11th row has been completed. Ch 3, turn. 12th row: Dc in next 6 dc, then work 3 sps, 1 bl, 1 sp, 2 bls, 9 sps, 9 bls, 2 sps, 4 bls, then ch 5, skip next 3 dc and next sp, work dc in next dc (bar made). Make 2 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, then ch 5, skip next sp and 3 dc, work dc in next dc (another bar). Work 4 bls, 2 sps, 9 bls, 9 sps, 2 bls, 1 sp, 1 bl, 3 sps, 2 bls. Ch 3, turn. 13th row: 2 bls, 5 sps, 2 bls, 9 sps, 2 bls, 3 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 5 bls, 1 sp, then ch 3, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, dc in next dc (lacet made over bar). Work 1 bl, 1 sp, bar, 1 sp, 1 bl, bar, 1 sp, 7 bls, (1 sp, 1 bl) twice; 1 sp, 4 bls, 7 sps, 4 bls, 2 sps, 3 bls. Ch 3, turn. 15th row: 8 bls, 8 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 3 sps, 7 bls, 1 sp, bar, lacet, 1 bl, 1 sp, lacet, 1 sp, 1 bl, lacet, bar, 1 sp, 7 bls, 3 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 8 sps, 8 bls. Ch 5, turn. 16th row: Skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, work 5 bls, 10 sps, and continue to follow chart across to end. Ch 3, turn. Starting with 17th row, follow chart to top. Fasten off.

ARM PIECES … Starting at the bottom of chart, ch 45. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 8 ch (10 dc, counting the turning ch). Ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch (sp made). Make 2 more sps, then work dc in next 6 ch (2 bls made). Make 3 sps, then work dc in next 9 ch. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch (1 bl increased); dc in next 10 dc, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc. Work 5 more sps, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 9 dc, 3 foundation dc, and 1 dc in last foundation ch. Ch 14, turn. 3rd row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 10 ch, dc in next 4 dc, and continue to follow chart across to end. Starting with 4th row, follow chart to top. Fasten off.

RUNNERS

Starting at the bottom of chart, ch 63. Follow directions for Chair Back until 16th row has been completed.

For 45-inch Runner: Starting with 17th row, follow chart for Runner to top. Fasten off.

For 36-inch Runner: Starting with 17th row, follow chart for Runner until 43rd row has been completed. Omit the 44th to 61st rows incl (area bracketed between arrows). Starting with 62nd row, follow chart until 164th row has been completed. Omit the 165th to 182nd rows incl (2nd bracketed area) then starting with 183rd row, follow chart to top. Fasten off.
