Monogram Towel Decorative Crochet Pattern TW357

MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 5: 4 balls each of No. 37 Dk. Lavender and No. 32 Purple, 1 ball of No. 1 White, or
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen: 1 ball each of No. 18 Shaded Lavenders, No. 32 Purple and No. 1 White.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
A chartreuse bath towel.

   Make a sketch of letters desired for monograms, having center initial 8 inches high and each side initial 4½ inches.

INITIAL ... With Purple make chain slightly longer than strip. 1st row: Half dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across until piece measures length desired. Break off. Cut off remaining chain. 2nd row: Attach Lavender to opposite side of starting chain, ch 2, half dc in each ch across. Break off. 3rd row: Attach Purple to back loop of first half dc, sl st in back loop of each half dc across. Break off. Attach White to starting chain between first and second rows, carrying White along underside of work, * insert hook in next st, draw White through loop on hook. Repeat from * across. Break off.
   Pin sketch to towel. Sew initials in place over sketch. With Purple, em­broider scrolls in chain stitch around monogram.

EDGING  ... 1st row: Mark off ½ inch sps across towel. Attach Purple to first mark, 3 sc in same place, * ch 10, skip next mark, 3 sc in next mark. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Skip first sc, sc in next sc, * 16 dc in next loop, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Break off. 3rd row: Attach White to first dc, sl st in each dc across. Break off.
  Cut 15 yards of Lavender, wind around a bobby pin to fit under loop. Cut more thread as needed. Next row: Attach Lavender to first mark skipped, 3 sc in same place, * ch 10, 3 sc in next mark in back of next loop, drop loop from hook, pick up loop in front of work, bring thread through loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Following row: Skip first sc, sc in next sc, * 15 dc in next loop, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, drop loop from hook, pick up loop in front of work, bring thread through loop. Repeat from * across. Break off. Make edging on opposite side of towel in same way.
