Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls of White, size 70. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11 or 12. 2 small buttons.

Starting just below neck band, make a chain to measure about 16 inches, turn. 1st row: S c in 7th ch from hook, * ch 5, skip 2 ch, s c in next ch, repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: S c in 1st loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop, repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 6th row: Work a 4-d c cluster in 1st loop, * ch 5, a cluster in next loop, repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. 7th row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 6, s c in next loop, repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. 8th row: D c in 1st loop, * d c in next loop, ch 6, d c in same loop, repeat from * across. Ch 7, turn. 9th and 10th rows: Same as 8th row, but making ch 7 (instead of ch-6). Ch 8, turn. 11th and 12th rows: Same as 8th row, but making ch 8 (instead of ch-6). Ch 9, turn. 13th and 14th rows: Same as 8th row, but making ch 9 (instead of ch-6). Ch 9, turn. At end of 14th row, ch 4 to turn. 15th row: Make 4-d c cluster in 1st loop, * ch 2, 4-d c cluster in same loop, ch 3, 4-d c cluster in next loop, repeat from * across, ending row with 4-d c cluster, ch 2, 4-d c cluster in last loop. Ch 5, turn. 16th row: * S c in ch-2 sp, ch 5, s c in ch-3 sp, ch 5, repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. 17th to 21st rows incl: S c in 1st loop, * ch 6, s c in next loop, repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. At end of 21st row, ch 4, turn. 22nd row: * Make a ch-5 p, ch 3, s c in next loop, ch 3, repeat from * across. Break off.

To make neck band and frill, attach thread to one end of foundation ch at neck edge. 1st row: Make 1 d c in each ch st across foundation ch. Ch 3, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: D c in each d c across. Ch 3, turn. At end of 5th row, ch 5, turn. 6th row: D c in next d c, * ch 2, skip 1 d c, d c in next d c, repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 7th row: S c in 1st sp, * ch 5, s c in next sp, repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 8th row: 2 s c in 1st loop, * ch 5, 2 s c in next loop, repeat from * across. Ch 6, turn. 9th row: Same as previous row, but making ch 6 (instead of ch-5). Ch 6, turn. 10th and 11th rows: Same as previous row, but making 3 s c (instead of 2 s c). Ch 4, turn. 12th row: * Make a ch-5 p, ch 3, s c in next loop, ch 3, repeat from * across. Break off. Make 2 chain loops across one end of neck band and sew buttons on opposite end to correspond. Starch and press.
