Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls of White, size 50. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11 or 12. A small button.

Jabot. To begin, ch 35, turn. 1st row: D c in 5th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch. Repeat from * across (11 sps). Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: D c in next d c, * ch 2, d c in next d c, repeat from * across, ending row with d c in 3rd st of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. Repeat 2nd row until work measures 4 inches. Ch 5, turn. Then begin ruffle as follows: 1st row: S c in 1st sp, ch 5, s c in same sp, * ch 5, s c in next sp, ch 5, s c in same sp, repeat from * across (22 loops in all). Ch 5, turn. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows: S c in 1st loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop, repeat from * across (22 loops). Ch 5, turn. 5th and 6th rows: 2 s c in 1st loop, * ch 5, 2 s c in next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 7th row: 2 s c in 1st loop, * ch 5, 2 s c in next loop, ch 5, 2 s c in next loop, ch 5, make a 4-d c cluster in next loop, ch 3, 4-d c cluster in same loop, repeat from * across, ending row with 3 loops (instead of 4 loops as in beginning). Ch 5, turn. There are 6 groups of clusters in the row. 8th row: 2 s c in 1st loop, * ch 5, 2 s c in next loop, ch 5, 2 s c in next loop, ch 5, 4-d c cluster in ch-3 between clusters of previous row, ch 5, 2 s c in next loop, repeat from * across, ending row with 4 loops. Ch 6, turn. 9th to 12th rows incl: Same as 6th row, but making ch 6 instead of ch-5. Ch 6, turn. 13th row: Same as previous row, but making 3 s c instead of 2 s c. Ch 6, turn. 14th row: * 3 s c in next loop, ch 6, repeat from * until 5 loops are made, then ch 6, ** make a 4-d c cluster in next loop, ch 3, 4-d c cluster in same loop. Make 3 more loops, then ch 6 and repeat from ** across, ending row with 6 loops. Ch 6, turn. There are 5 groups of clusters in this row. 15th row: Work as for 13th row, making a 4-d c cluster in ch-3 between clusters of previous row. 16th to 19th rows incl: Same as 13th row. Ch 6, turn. 20th row: Same as 14th row, but spacing clusters so that they are in line with clusters of 7th row (6 groups of clusters in all). Ch 6, turn. 21st row: Same as 15th row. Ch 7, turn. 22nd row: Same as 13th row, but making ch 7 loops instead of ch-6. Ch 7, turn. 23rd row: 3 s c in 1st loop, * ch 7, a 4-d c cluster in next loop, make a ch-5 p, ch 7, 3 s c in next loop. Repeat from * across. Break off. Attach thread to 1st sp at foundation ch at opposite end of work and work a ruffle same as this. Break off.

Neck Band. Starting at short end, ch 18, turn. 1st row: S c in 6th ch from hook, * ch 5, skip 3 ch, s c in next ch, repeat from * across (4 loops). Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. Repeat 2nd row until work measures 14½ inches. Ch 5, turn. Then, working along the length of band, make s c in 1st loop, * ch 2, a 4-d c cluster in next loop, ch 3, a 4-d c cluster in same loop, ch 2, s c in next loop. Repeat from * across. Then along short side, work 3 s c in each loop to corner. Then ch 2 and work other two sides to correspond.

Fold one ruffle over band of sps along 2nd row of band, and sew center of neck band to this 2nd row, thus joining neck band to ruffle. Fasten neck band with a button.
