MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY BUNT­ING POMPADOUR, 3 balls (¾ oz. balls).
Crochet Hook, Size G.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 1.
2 small pearl buttons.
2 yards of narrow ribbon.

GAUGE: (With G hook) 5 sts make 1 inch; (sc with single yarn and No. 1 hook) 6 sts make 1 inch.

SHOES (Sole) … Starting at heel with double strand of yarn and No. 1 hook, ch 6. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: 2 sc in 1st sc, sc in each st across, 2 sc in last st. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sc in each st across (9 sts). Ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until piece meas­ures 3¼ inches in all. Ch 1, turn. Next row: Skip 1st sc, sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until 5 sts re­main (Toe). Fasten off.

UPPER (Toe Piece) … With single strand of yarn and G hook, ch 7 to meas­ure 1¼ inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (6 sts). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in 1st st (tr in next st, sc in next st) twice; sc in last st. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sc in first 2 sts, (tr in next st, sc in next st) twice. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: Same as 3rd row. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows once more. Ch 32 (to measure about 6 inches), drop loop from hook, insert hook in first st of last row and, being careful not to twist chain, draw dropped loop through. Now work the Side of Upper as follows: 1st rnd: (The wrong side of Toe Piece is facing). Ch 1, work sc in each of 32 ch, work 7 sc along side of Toe Piece, 6 sc along opposite side of foundation chain and 7 sc along other side (52 sc). Join with sl st in 1st sc made. Ch 1, turn. 2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * tr in next st, sc in next st. Repeat from * around, end­ing with tr in last st. Join. Ch 1, turn. 3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, sc in each st around (52 sts). Ch 1, turn. 4th rnd: Tr in same place as sl st, * sc in next st, tr in next st. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in last st. Join. Ch 1, turn. 5th rnd: Same as 3rd rnd. Repeat 2nd to 5th rnds incl until piece measures 1¼ inches (measuring from chain), ending with either the 3rd or 5th rnd. Fasten off. Sew lower edge of Upper along outer edge of Sole.

STRAP … With single strand of yarn and G hook, ch 27 (to measure about 5½ inches). 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in 2 sc, ch 2, skip 2 sts for buttonhole, * sc in next st, tr in next st. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each st and in each ch across. Fasten off.
   Sew button to end of strap opposite buttonhole. Sew strap in place along cen­ter top 1½ inches of Upper, having but­ton at side of ankle. Make a tiny ribbon bow and sew in center of Toe Piece.

MITTENS … Starting at top of cuff with G hook, ch 33 to measure 6½ inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Join with sl st in 1st sc (32 sts). Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 5th rnds incl: Same as 2nd to 5th rnds of Side of Upper. Repeat 2nd to 5th rnds incl until cuff measures 1½ inches, end­ing with either the 3rd or 5th rnd. Ch 1, turn. Change to No. 1 hook. Next rnd: (Right side facing) Sc in each st around. Do not join rnds. Repeat last rnd until piece measures 2½ inches from end of cuff. Next rnd: Sc in each st around, de­creasing 4 sts evenly around—to dec, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Following rnd: Sc in each st around. Repeat last 2 rnds alternately until 20 sts remain on the rnd, being careful increases do not fall di­rectly over each other. Next rnd: Work off 2 sts as 1 st all around (10 sts). Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch length of yarn. Thread a needle with this length and run through remaining sts. Pull tight and darn in end on wrong side. Run ½ yard of ribbon in and out around wrist. Tie in a bow.

BOTTLE COVER (Bottom) … With No. 1 hook, ch 2. 1st rnd: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join rnds. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each st around (16 sts). 3rd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (an inc). Repeat from * around (24 sts). 4th rnd: Sc in each sc, increasing as necessary to keep work flat. Repeat last rnd until piece measures 2 inches in diameter. Sl st in next st. Fasten off.

SIDE…Starting at bottom with G hook, ch 35 to measure 7 inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (34 sts). Join with sl st in 1st sc made, thus forming a ring. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 5th rnds incl: Same as 2nd to 5th rnds of Side of Upper. Repeat 2nd to 5th rnds until Side measures 5 inches. Change to No. 1 hook, ch 6, * sc in 3rd ch from hook, skip 1 st, dc in next st, ch 3. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in 3rd st of starting chain. Fasten off. Run ribbon through beading and tie in a bow.
