Materials: Clark's O.N.T. "Brilliant", 15 balls of Blue, and 2 balls each of Brown and Pink.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.

When completed, slip cover measures about 18 inches at front edge, 14 inches at back edge, and 14 inches along both side edges. Side strip measures about 3 inches deep.

Gauge: 14 d c make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch. (Each individual square on chart indicates 3 d c, except first square of each row, which indicates 4 d c.)

Chair Seat. Starting at front edge, with Blue ch 255 (to measure about 19 inches). 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across (253 d c, counting turning ch-3 as 1 d c). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each d c across. Ch 3, turn. Hereafter repeat 2nd row, decreasing 1 d c at both ends of next row and every 3rd row thereafter until 11 rows in all are completed (to decrease, work off 2 d c as 1 d c). Ch 3 (to count as d c), turn. 12th row: Dec. 1 d c, then make 79 more d c. Thread over, insert hook in next d c and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, drop Blue, pick up Brown and draw through remaining 2 loops (82 Blue d c made). Then, holding Blue along top of previous row (thus concealing Blue), d c in each of next 8 d c. Thread over, insert hook in next d c and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, drop Brown, pick up Blue and draw through remaining 2 loops (9 Brown d c made). With Blue make 63 d c, carrying Brown concealed in d c's and completing last d c with Brown, as before. Make 9 Brown d c, and complete row with 81 Blue d c; then dec. 1 d c (82 Blue d c made). Ch 3, turn. Hereafter follow chart to 18th row incl., continuing with side decreases. 19th row: 62 Blue d c, completing last d c with Brown; 9 Brown d c (concealing Blue as before), completing last d c with Blue. Continue in this manner (always ending the last d c of each color with the following color and concealing unused colors as before), making 6 Blue d c, 3 Brown d c, 6 Blue d c, 9 Brown d c, 15 Blue d c; attach Pink and make 9 Pink d c, 3 Blue d c, 9 Pink d c, 15 Blue d c, 9 Brown d c, 6 Blue d c, 3 Brown d c, 6 Blue d c, 9 Brown d c, 62 Blue d c. Ch 3, turn. Hereafter follow chart, continuing to dec. 1 d c at both ends of every 3rd row until 199 d c remain. On next row, sl st across 1st 15 d c, ch 3 and make d c in each d c across to within 15 d c from opposite end. Work across these 169 d c without decreasing for 3 inches. Break off.

Side Strip. With Blue, ch 44 (to measure about 3½ inches). 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c in each d c across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece is long enough to go around the two side edges and front edge of chair seat (about 46 inches). Break off. Place the edge of this strip against the edges of chair seat, and sew edges together neatly.

Cords. Cut 8 strands of Brown, each 6 yds. long. Twist strands tightly, then double the twisted strands and give them a second twist in the opposite direction. Sew this cord along edges of chair seat where strip was joined, and around back. Make another cord same as this, and sew all around edges of side strip and back piece. Cut remaining cord into 4 pieces of equal length, to be used as ties.
