Peasant Table Mats Pattern #70

Materials: (4 mats) Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Cro­chet Cotton, 2 balls of Ecru and 1 ball each of color 38 Dark Orange, 68 Skipper Blue, 9 Yellow and 12 Black; or J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 4 balls of Ecru, 2 balls of 38 Dark Orange, and 1 ball each of 68 Skipper Blue, 9 Yellow, and 12 Black. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3 or 4.

The above amount is sufficient for 4 mats, each about 10 x 16 inches.

Mat: With Ecru, ch to measure 16½ inches. 1st row: S c in 3rd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 st of foundation ch, s c in next, and repeat from * along ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: * S c under next ch-1 loop, ch 1, and repeat from * across, ending with s c in the beginning ch-1. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row, working the colors as follows: 8 rows of Ecru, 4 rows of Dark Orange, 4 rows of Skipper Blue, 2 rows of Yellow, 2 rows of Dark Orange, 4 rows of Ecru, 2 rows of Yellow, 2 rows of Black, 2 rows of Dark Orange, 32 rows of Ecru. Reverse order of color rows to make other side correspond. Knot fringe 1½ inches long across the ends, matching the colors in the stripes. If a wider mat is desired, add more rows to the 32 rows of Ecru.
