This Bonnet can be made with:

“GEM” HAT and BAG YARN, Article 144.
2 skeins Gray.
1 skein White or colors desired.
Aluminum crochet hook size F.
Ornamental Hairpin.
1 Bicycle Clip.

With Gray and starting at back ch 9, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts of ch, 2 s c in next st of ch, 3 s c in last st, working on opposite side of ch, 2 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of the next 6 sts, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. Picking up front loop of sts, work 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, 2 s c in each of the next 5 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 7 s c, ch 1, turn.

3rd Row. Working through back loop of sts and working in s c, increase in every 3rd s c ending with 1 s c in each of the last 3 s c, ch 1, turn.

4th Row. Working through front loop of sts, work 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn. All even numbered rows pick up front loop of sts and all uneven numbered rows pick up

back loop of sts throughout, this will not be referred to again.

5th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 12 s c, * 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in next s c, repeat from * 3 times, 1 s c in each remaining st, ch 1 to turn all rows.

6th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 11 s c, * 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in next s c, repeat from * 6 times, 1 s c in each remaining st.

7th Row. 1 s c in each s c.

8th Row: 1 s c in each of the next 13 s c, 2 s c in next s c, * 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * 4 times, 1 s c in each remaining st.

Next 16 Rows. 1 s c in each s c, cut yarn.

BAND: With right side of hat toward you attach Gray at lower edge and working across neck edge work 46 s c across hat, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. Working through front loop of sts work 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.

3rd Row. Same as last row but working through back loop of sts.

4th Row. Same as 2nd row.

5th Row. Working through back loop of sts work 1 sl st in each s c, cut yarn. With right side of hat toward you attach White at lower edge of band and working across front of hat work 4 s c on band then working in back loop of sts, 1 s c in each s c across front, 4 s c in band, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. Working through front loop of sts, 1 s c in each s c, ch 1, turn.

Next Row. Same as last row but working through back loop of sts, cut yarn.

ORNAMENT: With White ch 2, 8 s c in 2nd st from hook, join in 1st s c.

Next Round. 2 s c in each s c, join, cut White.

Next Round. Attach Gray, 2 s c in same space, sl st in next s c, * 2 s c in next s c, sl st in next s c, repeat from * all around, join, cut yarn.

Insert hairpin through ornament and insert through hat as illustrated. Holding bicycle clip to inside of hat, turn under last row of front of hat and sew over the bicycle clip.
