FRUIT POTHOLDERS

Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DE LUXE” MERCERIZED CROCHET AND KNITTING COTTON, ARTICLE 346
2—250 yd. Balls White.
1—175 yd. Ball each Yellow, Blue and Red,
"STAR” SIX STRAND MERCERIZED EMBROIDERY COTTON, ARTICLE 50
1 Skein each Red, Brown and Green and
"STAR” PEARL COTTON, ARTICLE 90, SIZE 5
1—50 yd. Ball Green.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 8 or No. 9.

APPLE POTHOLDER #5507

Front and back sections are worked same as holder No. 5505. The border, edge and ring are worked in Yellow.
APPLE: With Yellow, ch 9, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn each row.
2nd Row—Working in s c throughout, increase 1 s c at beginning and end of row.
Repeat 2nd row 8 times, then work 8 rows even.
19th Row—Decrease 1 s c at beginning and end of row (To decrease: insert hook in next st, pull through, insert hook in next st, pull through, thread over and pull through all loops at one time).
20th Row—Repeat 19th row, then work 1 row even.
22nd Row—Repeat 19th row.
23rd Row—1 s c in each of the next 9 s c, slip st in each of the next 2 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 9 s c.
24th Row—Repeat last row once, break thread.
Use 3 strands of "STAR” Six Strand Mercerized Embroidery Cotton for embroidery. With Red, applique apple to front section of holder using a blanket stitch. Embroider stem in Brown and leaf in Green using a satin stitch.
