Infant's Bonnet Pattern #5323

Sizes 3 to 6 Months

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" INFANTS WOOL, ARTICLE W5
1—⅞ oz. Ball White or Baby Colors.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 4 or No. 5.
Bone Afghan Hook No. 4 or No. 5.
2½ yds. of Ribbon.

With bone crochet hook, ch 2, 6 s c in first st of ch, join.
2nd Row. 2 s c in each s c (do not join or turn this or the following rows).
3rd Row. Place a marker at the beginning of each row, * 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * all around (18 s c).
4th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from beginning all around (24 s c).
5th Row. 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from beginning all around (30 s c).
Work 13 more rows in same manner increasing at increasing points and having one more st between increasing points in each row, join (108 s c).
19th Row. Ch 3, 1 d c in each of the next 90 s c, ch 1, turn.
20th Row. 1 s c in each d c, ch 1, turn.
21st Row. With Afghan hook, work in plain Afghan st as follows: pick up a st in each s c leaving all loops on needle, work back by drawing yarn through first loop, * yarn over needle and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * to end of row.
22nd Row. Same as last row picking up the vertical yarn instead of s c and work back in same manner.
Repeat the 22nd row 3 times.
26th Row. Work in fancy Afghan st as follows: the st that is on hook is the first st of this row, * hold yarn in front of work with the thumb below the next perpendicular bar, pull yarn through as in plain afghan st keeping work loose on hook, pick up the next st as in plain afghan st, repeat from * to end of row. Work back as in plain afghan st.
27th Row. Working in same manner reverse pattern having the plain afghan st on top of fancy st of previous row and fancy st on top of plain st of previous row. Work back as in plain afghan st.
Repeat the 26th and 27th rows 4 times.
36th, 37th, 38th & 39th Rows. Same as the 22nd row.
Slip st in each st across row.
With Afghan hook, pick up 68 sts around neck edge and work back in afghan st.
Next 4 Rows. Work same as 26th row.
Next Row. Slip st in each st across row, break yarn.
Attach ribbon for ties as illustrated.
