Boy's Beret Pattern #5320

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" PEARL COTTON ARTICLE 90, SIZE 5
5—50 yd. Balls Blue or any Color desired.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 4 or No. 5.

The entire Beret is worked with 2 strands of thread.

Ch 4, join to form a ring, ch 2 and work 8 s d c in ring, (s d c; see directions Girl's Beret). Do not join or turn rounds.
2nd Round. 2 s d c in each s d c. Mark the beginning of each round.
3rd Round. * 1 s d c in next s d c, 2 s d c in next s d c, repeat from * 7 times.
4th Round. * 1 s d c in each of the next 2 s d c, 2 s d c in next s d c, repeat from * 7 times.
5th Round. * 1 s d c in each of the next 3 s d c, 2 s d c in next s d c, repeat from * 7 times.
Work 13 more rounds in same manner having 1 more s d c between increasing points in each round.
19th to 26th Rounds. 1 s d c in each s d c.
27th Round. * 1 s d c in each of the next 16 s d c, decrease 1 s d c (decrease; insert needle in next s d c, pull loop through, insert needle in next s d c, pull loop through, thread over and pull through all loops at one time). Repeat from * 7 times.
28th Round. * 1 s d c in each of the next 15 s d c, decrease 1 s d c, repeat from * 7 times.
29th Round. Working in back loop of st only, 1 s d c in each s d c.
Work 4 more rounds of s d c even for head band, break thread.
TAB FOR TOP OF BERET. Ch 8, join and work 1 s c in each st of ch without joining rounds and working in the back loop of st only, work 1 s c in each s c until tab measures about 1 inch, then * skip 1 s c, s c in next s c, repeat from * 3 times, break thread. Sew tab to top of Beret, turn head band under.
