Crocheted Dress Pattern #5305

Size 2 to 3

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "SILLATEEN SANSIL," ARTICLE 101 or 102
13160 yd. Balls White or Colors.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 11 or 12.
10 Small Buttons.

GAUGE. Short Double Crochet (s d c) 11 sts= 1". 8 rows= 1".
The entire yoke is made in short double crochet (s d c: thread over once pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time).

FRONT YOKE. Ch 127 for lower edge of yoke, work 1 s d c in 3rd st from hook, 1 s d c in each remaining st of ch, ch 2 to turn each row. Work 11 rows even.
Next Row. Start shaping armhole. Slip st across 1st 11 sts and omit the last 11 sts.
Next 2 Rows. Decrease 1 st each side of each row. Work even until work measures 5½ inches from the beginning.
Next Row. Start shaping neck. Work across 44 sts, ch 1, turn.
Next 2 Rows. Decrease 2 sts at neck edge each row.
Next 3 Rows. Decrease 1 st at neck edge each row.
Next Row. Decrease 1 st at neck edge and omit the last 12 sts, ch 1, turn, sl st across 12 sts, ch 1, work to end of row and break thread. Skip 13 center sts of yoke, attach thread in next st and work other side to correspond.
BACK YOKE. Ch 64, and work 12 rows even.
Next Row. Start shaping armhole. Omit the last 11 sts.
Next 2 Rows. Decrease 1 st at armhole edge each row.
Work even until armhole measures 1 row less than armhole of front yoke ending at armhole side.
Next Row. Work across 38 sts, ch 1, turn, skip 1 st and work across 25 sts, ch 1, turn, sl st across 12 sts and work next 12 sts, break thread and work other side of back to correspond. Press each piece, sew underarm and shoulder seams.
SKIRT. With right side toward you attach thread in lower corner of back, ch 3 and work 2 d c in each st, ch 4, turn.
2nd Row. 2 d c in same space with ch 4, skip 2 d c, sl st in next d c, * ch 4, 2 d c in same space with sl st, skip 2 d c, sl st in next d c (shell) repeat from * to end of row, ch 4 turn.
3rd Row. 2 d c in same space with ch 4, sl st in ch 4 of shell in previous row, * ch 4, 2 d c in same space, sl st in ch 4 of next shell, repeat from * to end of row, ch 4, turn and repeat 3rd row until skirt measures 3 inches then join. Continue working rounds of shells joining each row and turning each row until dress measures 16 inches from shoulder or length desired.
SLEEVES. With right side of work toward you, attach thread in 6th row to right of shoulder seam, ch 4, work 3 shells to shoulder seams and 3 shells the other side of shoulder seam, (each shell is worked over 2 rows of s d c) * ch 4, turn, work a shell in each shell and 1 shell beyond last shell, repeat from * until there are 20 shells in row then add 2 shells at end of each row until all rows have been picked up to the straight underarm section.
Next Row. Work across shells and work 8 shells at underarm, slip st in ch 4 of next shell to join, ch 4, turn and work 5 more rows of shells, joining each row and turning each row.
SLEEVE BAND. * Work 2 s c in each of the next 5 shells, 1 s c in next shell, repeat from * all around, join, ch 2 and work 1 s d c in each s c, join. Work 2 more rows of s d c and finish with a row of shells.
COLLAR. Work 1 d c in each st around neck, ch 4, turn, and work shells to center of front yoke, ch 4, turn and work 7 more rows of shells, break thread and work second section to correspond, then work a row of shells all around both sections. Finish back with 3 rows of s c. In the last row on right side, work 10 loops evenly spaced for buttons. Trim with 3 or 4 tiny ribbon bows if desired.
