This free pattern originally published by John Dritz & Sons Company, Volume 10, in 1947.

Hat No. 792

Materials Required:

DRITZ Belastraw Art. No. 110, 2 tubes of Main Color, 1 tube of Contrasting Color.

DRITZ Steel Crochet Hook No. 0 (Zero).

GAUGE: 4 1/2 sc make 1".

Starting at center top, with Main Color, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd: Ch 1, 7 sc in ring.

2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc (14 sc). Mark last st of each rnd.

3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * (21 sc).

4th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * (28 sc).

5th through 12th rnds: Continue increasing 7 sc evenly on each rnd (84 sc on 12th rnd).

13th rnd: Sc in each sc.

14th rnd: Sc in each sc then mark thid rnd with colored thread. Ridge will be worked on this rnd later.

15th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc. Repeat from * (96 sc).

16th and 17th rnds: Repeat 13th and 14th rnds.

18th and 19th rnds: Sc in each sc.

20th, 21st and 22nd rnds: Repeat 14th, 18th and 19th rnds.

23rd rnd: Repeat 14th rnd.

24th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 11 sc. Repeat from * (104 sc).

25th rnd: Sc in each sc.

26th rnd: Repeat 14th rnd.

27th rnd: Sc in each sc.

28th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 12 sc. Repeat from * (112 sc).

29th rnd: Sc in each sc.

30th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 13 sc. Repeat from * (120 sc).

31st rnd: Sc in each sc.

32nd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 9 sc. Repeat from * (132 sc).

33rd rnd: Sc in each sc.

34th rnd: Repeat 14th rnd.

35th and 36th rnds: Sc in each sc.

37th rnd: Repeat 14th rnd.

38th rnd: Sc in each sc. End off (this is center back).

RIDGE: Holding Crown away from you, attach Main Color to 1st marked rnd in line with center back. Sc over each sc of marked rnd. End off.

Turn. Attach Contrasting Color and sc in back loop only of each sc of ridge. End off. Work a ridge on each marked rnd.

Trim with ribbon cockade, covering joinings at center back.
