RIBBON: 1-yard narrow ribbon 3-inches of hat wire
8-inch Character Doll

   DRESS: Starting at neck edge, using the red cotton, chain 26 sts, turn; 1 d c in 4th st from hook, 2 d c in each remaining chain st (46 sts). Note — the turning ch-3 will count as a st. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 1 d c in next 8 sts, ch 3, skip 5 sts, 1 d c in next 18 sts, ch 3, skip 5 sts, 1 d c in last 9 sts. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: 1 s c in next 9 sts, 3 s c over ch-3 space, 1 s c in next 18 sts, 3 s c over ch-3 space, 1 s c in last 9 sts (42 sts). Ch 3, turn. 5th row: D c across row, decreasing 6 sts evenly spaced apart. (36 sts). Ch 1, turn. 6th row: 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 3, turn. 7th row: Repeat 5th row, decreasing 4 sts, (32 sts). Ch 1, turn. 8th and 9th rows: 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 4, turn. Beginning of skirt — Working in the back thread of loop on this row only, make 1 tr c in base of turning chain, 2 tr c in each st across row. Ch 4, turn. Row 2: * 2 tr c in next st, 1 tr c in next st; repeat from * across row. Join this and every round hereafter. Ch 4, turn. Row 3: * 2 tr c in next st, 1 tr c in next 2 sts; repeat from * around. Ch 4, turn. Row 4: * 2 tr c in next st, 1 tr c in next 3 sts; repeat from * around. Ch 4, turn. Row 5: * 2 tr c in next st, 1 tr c in next 4 sts; repeat from * around. Ch 4, turn. Rows 6-7-8 incl: 1 tr c in each st around. Fasten off.

   SLEEVES: Tie thread at underarm. Ch 3, make 22 d c around armhole. Join each round. Ch 1, turn. 2nd rd: 1 s c in each st around. Ch 3, turn. 3rd rd: 1 d c in each st around. Ch 1, turn. 4th rd: * 1 s c in next st, skip 1 st; repeat from * around. Join. Fasten off. Make the other sleeve the same way.

   PANTIES: Using the bedspread cotton, make a chain 38 sts, turn; 1 d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each remaining chain st (35 d c). Ch 3, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: 1 d c in each st across row. Break thread leaving 12 inches. Sew panties onto doll. Through center of crotch, catch the two pieces together.

   OVER SKIRT: Using the #20 cotton, make a chain of 63 sts, turn; 1 d c in 5th st from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 chain, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * across chain (29 spaces). Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: * 1 s c in next d c, ch 4, repeat from * across row (29 loops). Turn. 3rd row: * ch 5, 1 s c in next loop, repeat from * across row. Turn. 4th row: * ch 6, 1 s c in next loop, repeat from * across row. Ch 4, turn. 5th row: * in next loop make a shell — 3 tr c, ch 3, 3 tr c; ch 3, 1 s c in next loop, ch 3, repeat from * across row ending with a shell in last loop (15 shells). Ch 4, turn. 6th row: * In chain-3 space make — 3 tr c, ch 3, 3 tr c; ch 3, 1 d c in next s c, ch 3, repeat from * across row, ending with a shell. Ch 4, turn. 7th row: * In ch-3 space make — 4 tr c, ch 3, 4 tr c; ch 3, 1 d c in next d c, ch 3, repeat from * across row. Ch 4, turn. 8th row: * In ch-3 space make — 4 tr c, ch 3, 4 tr c; ch 4, 1 d c in next d c, ch 4, repeat from * across row. Ch 4, turn. 9th and 10th rows: Repeat 8th row. Ch 4, turn. Last row: * Over ch-3 space make — 5 tr c, ch 4, make a picot, 5 tr c; ch 6, s c in top of next d c, ch 6, repeat from * across row. Break thread. Fasten off.

   YOKE: Work the first 3 rows as on over skirt. 4th row: Ch 3, * 5 d c in first loop, ch 4 picot, 5 d c in same loop; 1 s c in next loop, repeat from * across row. Break thread and fasten off.

   TIARA: Cut a piece of wire 3 inches long. Fasten on the #20 thread. Make 56 s c over this wire. 2nd row: * ch 4, skip 2 s c, 1 s c in next st, repeat from * across row. Turn. 3rd row: Ch 4, s c in next loop, repeat across row. Ch 4, turn. 4th row: * In next loop, make 3 d c, chain 4 picot, 3 d c; ch 2, sc in next loop, ch 2, repeat from * across row ending with a shell. Break thread and fasten off. Trim with a brilliant.

   FINISHING: Run a piece of narrow ribbon thru the first row of over skirt and tie in a bow at back. Do the same in the first row of yoke, but tie bow at front.
