REQUIREMENTS:
THREAD: 175 yards Bedspread Cotton
CROCHET HOOK: 1 steel No. 7
RIBBON: ½-yd. 3 inch satin for slip
1-yd. narrow ribbon for stole
8-inch Character Doll

   Starting at the waist for skirt: Make a chain of 32 sts, turn; 1 d c in 4th st from hook, 2 d c in each remaining chain st. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 1 d c in base of chain, 2 d c in each remaining st across row. Join this and every round. Ch 5. 3rd rd: * skip 1 st, 1 d c in next st, ch 2, repeat from * around once, ending with ch 2, slip st in 3rd st of ch-5. Chain 5. 4th rd: * 1 d c in next d c, ch 2, repeat from * around. Join. Ch 3. 5th rd: * 2 d c over ch-2 space, 1 d c in next d c, repeat from * around. Ch 3. 6th rd: 1 d c in each st around. Repeat 3rd to 6th rds. inclusive, once. 11th rd: * Ch 5, skip 2 sts, 1 s c in next st, repeat from * around. 12th rd: * ch 4, 1 s c in next loop, repeat from * around once. Break thread. Fasten off.

   BODICE: Tie thread at opposite side of starting chain. Ch 3, 1 d c in each chain st (28 d c). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Work in d c, increasing 4 sts evenly spaced apart across row (32 sts). 3rd row: Repeat 2nd row (36 sts). 4th row: 1 d c in each st across row. Ch 5, turn. 5th and 6th rows: Finish as last 2 rows on skirt. Fasten thread off.

   STOLE: Chain 2, 3 s c in 2nd st from hook; ch 1, turn; 2 s c in first st, 1 s c in next st, 2 s c in last st. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: 2 s c in first st, 1 s c in next 3 sts, 2 s c in last st, ch 1, turn. Continue in this manner increasing 1 st at each side of the work on every row until there are 41 sts across row. Ch 5, working along the increased side; * skip 1 row, 1 d c in next st, ch 3, repeat from * down this side, place 2 extra spaces at point, work up the other increased side. Ch 5, turn. Finish with 2 rows as on bottom of skirt.

   PANTIES: Follow directions as given for Frances Doll.

   FINISHING: Gather the 3 inch ribbon and draw tightly to fit the waist. Sew panties onto doll. Catch thru at crotch. Run the narrow ribbon thru the row of spaces and tie in a bow at back.
