1-yard of narrow ribbon
½-yd. of 3 inch ribbon

DRESS: Starting at the neck edge, make a loose chain of 34 sts, turn, 2 d c in 4th st from hook, 2 d c in each of the remaining chain sts (62 sts). Ch 3, turn. ROW 2: 1 d c in each st across row. Ch 3, turn. (Note: chain-3 will count as 1 d c). ROW 3: 1 d c in next 12 sts, ch 5, skip 5 sts, 1 d c in next 26 sts, ch 5, skip 5 sts, 1 d c in last 13 d c. Ch 3, turn. ROW 4: 1 d c in next 12 sts, 5 d c over ch-5 space, 1 d c in next 26 sts, 5 d c over ch-5 space, 1 a c in each st to end of row (62 sts). Ch 3, turn. ROWS: 5-6-7-8-9-10-11: Make 1 d c in each st across row. Ch 3, turn. NEXT ROW: (Beginning of leg) Make 1 d c in next 30 sts; join with a slip st to top of turning ch-3 (31 sts). Next row: Ch 3, 1 d c in next st, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 2 sts; repeat from * around. Join round. 3rd to 11th rounds inclusive: Make 1 d c in each st around, joining rounds. Break off thread. Tie in contrasting color. Make 1 s c in next 2 sts, * ch 3, slip st back in 3rd st from hook (picot), 1 s c in next 3 sts; repeat from * around. Break thread and fasten off. Make the other leg in the same way.

OVER SKIRT: Make a loose chain of 66 sts, turn; 1 d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each of the remaining chain sts. Join with a slip st. 2nd rd: Ch 3, * skip 1 st, in next st make a shell—2 d c, ch 3, 2 d c; skip 1 st, 1 d c in next st; repeat from * around, ending with a shell; join to top of ch-3 (16 shells). 3rd rd: Ch 3, * over ch-3 space make a shell—3 d c, ch 3, 3 d c ; 1 d c in the d c between shells; repeat from * around, ending with a shell. Join round. 4th to 14th rounds inclusive: Repeat 3rd round. Break thread. Tie in contrasting color in same place, * ch 5, s c in ch-3 space, ch 3, slip st in 3rd st from hook (picot), ch 5, s c in the d c between shells on row below; repeat from * around. Break thread.

HAT: Ch 4, join to form a ring. 1st rd: Ch 3, 13 d c into ring (14 sts). Join round. 2nd rd: Ch 3, 1 d c in same space, 2 d c in each st around (28 sts). Join round. 3rd rd: Ch 3, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next st; repeat from * around. Join. 4th rd: Ch 3, 1 d c in next 2 sts, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 3 sts; repeat from * around. Join. 5th rd: Ch 3, 1 d c in next 4 sts, * 2 d c in next st, 1 d c in next 5 sts; repeat from * around. Join. 6th rd: Ch 3, * in next d c make—2 d c, ch 3, 2 d c (shell), skip 1 st, 1 d c in next st; repeat from * around, ending with a shell. Join round. 7th to 9th rounds inclusive: Ch 3, * over ch-3 space make—3 d c, ch 3, 3 d c; 1 d c in next d c between shells; repeat from * around, ending with a slip st in top of ch-3. Fasten off. Tie in contrasting color and finish as on bottom of skirt.

FINISHING: Picking up the sts between the 2nd and 3rd rows on the yoke of dress, make a row of shell sts. Finish row of shells as on bottom of skirt. SLIP: Gather the 3-inch ribbon for slip then place the over skirt on top of this.
