HIAWATHA Belastraw Art. 35, 5 tubes Dark (D) and 3 tubes Light (L)
Steel crochet hook No. 0

Gauge: 5 sc = 1"; 5 rows = 1"

BOTTOM—Inside—With D ch 4, sl st in 1st ch, forming a ring. Rnd 1—7 sc in ring. Mark beg of rnds. Rnd 2—2 sc in each st (7 incs). Inc 7 sc each rnd (not directly over incs of previous rnd) until piece is 9½" across and there are 168 sts. Work 1 rnd even. Sl st in next st. End off. Outside—Same as Inside but do not end off (be sure both pieces have same number of sts).

SIDES—Cut heavy cardboard circle 10" in diameter. Rnd 1—Working through back loops of Outside and both loops of Inside work sc in each st around, thus joining. Rnd 2—Through both loops inc 12 sts evenly around. Work sc even with D to 3" from joining. Sl st in next st. End off D, join L. Work stripes as follows: 1½" L, 2¼" D, 1½" L, 1¾" D, 1½" L, 1¼" D, 2¼" L. Beading—With L ch 5, * skip 1 st, tr in next st, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-1 with sl st to 4th st of ch-5. Next rnd—Sc in each st and in each space. Work sc even to l½" above Beading. Sl st in next st. End off.

DRAWSTRINGS (make 2—1 of each color). Ch 40". Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, continuing along other side work sl st in each ch. End off. Finishing—Run both drawstrings through Beading (over and under 3 dc). Knot ends of each drawstring together, careful not to twist.
