Simple single crochet in the popular chevron design, with a frost­ing of easy loop stitch to add to the interest. If desired, it may be worked in horizontal stripes of gradated colors.

COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E. 234 (4 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 12 skeins of No. 690 Dk. Green, 5 skeins of No. 970 Greens.

Crochet Hook Size H.

A piece of cardboard, 1 x 3 inches.

Afghan measures 50 x 67 inches

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch; 10 rows (down center of a point) = 3 inches.

With Dk. Green, ch 289 (4 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, (sc in next 10 ch, skip next 2 ch, sc in next 10 ch, 3 sc in next ch, sc in next 20 ch, skip next 2 ch, sc in next 20 ch, 3 sc in next ch) 4 times; sc in next 10 ch, skip next 2 ch, sc in next 10 ch, 2 sc in last ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Picking up back loop only throughout, make 2 sc in first sc, (sc in next 10 sc, skip next 2 sc, sc in next 10 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 20 sc, skip next 2 sc, sc in next 20 sc, 3 sc in next sc) 4 times; sc in next 10 sc, skip next 2 sc, sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. Next 6 rows: Repeat 2nd row. At end of
8th row, drop Dk. Green, attach Greens. Ch 1, turn.
9th row (wrong side): Holding cardboard behind work, pass yarn over and around the narrow width of cardboard; then sc in both loops of first sc—loop st made. Make another loop st in same place. Picking up both loops throughout, and making loop sts instead of sc's, work same as 2nd row. Ch 1, turn. 10th row: Pick­ing up both loops throughout work same as 2nd row. Break off Greens, pick up Dk. Green. Ch 1, turn. 11th row: Repeat 2nd row. Repeat last 10 rows (2nd to 11th rows incl) for pat­tern. Work in pattern until total length is about 67 inches ending with a Dk. Green stripe. Break off and fasten. Block to measurements.
