BODY SECTION: ARMS—Wind Black 15 times over a 5 inch cardboard. Tie through both ends and at center, then tie about ¼ inch from each end.
HEAD: Wind Black 40 times over a 5 inch cardboard, tie through center (top), tie about 1 inch down from top for head. Insert arms through loop and tie below for waistline. Embroider eyes, nose and mouth as illustrated.
SHAWL: With Yellow ch 22, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in next st of ch, 1 s d c in next st (s d c: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time), 1 d c in next st, 1 tr c in next st, 2 tr c in each of the next 5 sts, 3 tr c in next st, 2 tr c in each of the next 5 sts, 1 tr c in next st, 1 d c in next st, 1 s d c in next st, 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, break yarn, leaving an end. Place shawl on body crossing the 2 ends, bring length of yarn around back of body and fasten at opposite end of shawl.
APRON: With Yellow ch 19, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows.
2nd Row—Working in back loop of st, work 1 s c in each s c.
Repeat 2nd row 14 times, break yarn. Attach Red in 1st s c of last row, * ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 2 s c, sl st in next s c (shell), repeat from * 4 times, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 st, sl st in next st, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 row, sl st in next row, * ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 2 rows, sl st in next row, repeat from * 3 times, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, sl st in base of next row, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 st, sl st in next st, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, * skip 2 sts, sl st in next st, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, repeat from * 3 times, sl st in last st, break yarn.
BAND: Working across top of apron, attach Yellow in 1st row of Yellow, * skip 1 row, s c in next row, repeat from * 5 times, s c in same space with 1st shell, ch 1, turn.
Next 2 Rows—1 s c in each s c, break yarn.
TIE: With Yellow ch 25, break yarn leaving a length. Work another tie in same manner. Sew a tie to each side of band.
SKIRT: With Red ch 27, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch. Repeat 2nd row of apron 48 times, break yarn leaving a length. Sew 2 short edges together to 2 inches from one edge for top opening. Attach Red at joining and work a row of shells all around same as on lower edge of apron, break yarn.
With wrong side of work toward you, attach Red at top edge at opening, * skip 2 rows, sl st in next row, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.
Next Row—S c in same space, * skip 1 sl st, s c in next st, repeat from * across row, break yarn. Place skirt on body having opening at back. Sew remainder of opening closed.
BANDANNA: With Red, ch 2, s c in 2nd st from hook, ch 1 to turn all rows.
2nd Row—2 s c in s c.
3rd Row—2 s c in each s c.
4th Row—Increase 1 s c at beginning and end of row. Repeat last row 6 times, break yarn. Sew the 3 points together. Work a French knot over joining. Place bandanna in position sewing to back of head. Tie apron in position Place doll over a pint milk bottle filled with sand.
