This free pattern originally published by Clark's O.N.T. J&P Coats as Bags, Book 228.

MATERIALS: CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 3 balls (1 oz. balls) of Brown ... J. & P. COATS OR CLARK'S O.N.T. PEARL COTTON, Size 5, 2 balls of Yellow ... Bone Crochet Hook No. 5 ... ¼ yard of brown felt ... 2 bone rings ... 11-inch zipper ... ½ yard of ribbon.

Use Knitting Worsted single; use 3 threads of Pearl Cotton.

GAUGE: 1 sc and 1 shell make 1 inch; 2 rows make 1 inch.

BOTTOM ••• Starting at center with Brown, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc). 3rd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (18 sc). 4th and 5th rnds: Sc in each sc around. 6th rnd: Repeat 3rd rnd (27 sc). 7th rnd: Repeat 4th rnd. 8th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around (36 sc). 9th and 10th rnds: Repeat 4th rnd. 11th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * around (45 sc). 12th rnd: Repeat 4th rnd. 13th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around (60 sc). 14th rnd: Repeat 4th rnd.

TOP ••• 15th rnd: * Skip 1 sc, 5 dc in next sc (shell made), skip 1 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Drop Brown. 16th rnd: Attach Yellow and make sc in each st around. Drop Yellow. 17th rnd: Pick up Brown. * Skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, skip 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Drop Brown. 18th to 21st rnds incl: Repeat 16th and 17th rnds alternately. 22nd, 23rd and 24th rnds: With Brown, * sc in center st of shell, shell in next sc. Repeat from * around. 25th to 30th rnds incl: Repeat 16th and 17th rnds alternately. 31st and 32nd rnds: Repeat 22nd rnd. At end of 32nd rnd, sl st in next st. Break off.

HANDLE ••• Ch 6. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 18 inches. Line Handle with ribbon.

Cut a piece of cardboard for Bottom, then line bag with felt. Sew zipper in place across top. Sew rings at sides. Sew handle to rings.
