Crocheted Lambs Pattern

Materials Required—The following AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY Products:

10" LAMB. (Top of head to sole of feet.) "DAWN" WORSTED FLOSS. 4 1-oz. Balls. Bone Crochet Hook No. 2 or 3.

12" LAMB. "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED. 7 1 ¼-oz. Skeins. Bone Crochet Hook No. 5.

15" LAMB. "STAR" COTTON YARN, 100 yd. Skeins. 7 Skeins. 10 yds. Black for Feet, Mouth and Nose are required for each Lamb. Bone Crochet Hook No. 6.

Cotton or Kapok for filling.

LEFT SIDE OF LAMB. Starting at Left Hind Leg. Ch 7 and work 6 s c on ch, ch 1 to turn each row. 2nd and 3rd Rows—1 s c in each s c. 4th Row—1 double loop st in each s c, (for double loop st see directions for Bear). 5th Row—Work in s c, increasing 1 s c at the beginning of row and decreasing 1 s c at the end of row. Repeat 4th and 5th rows twice, then work 1 row even in loop sts. 11th Row—Increase 1 s c at the beginning of row, 1 s c in each remaining s c. 12th Row—Loop st in each s c. Repeat 11th and 12th rows 6 times. 25th Row—Increase 1 s c at the beginning of row, 1 s c in each remaining st, then ch 28 for body, turn. 26th Row—Work 27 loop sts on ch, and 1 loop st in each s c of leg. 27th Row—Increase 1 s c at the beginning of row, 1 s c in each remaining st. 28th Row— Loop st in each s c. 29th Row—1 s c in each loop st. 30th Row—Loop st in each s c. 31st Row—Decrease 1 s c at the beginning and end of row, 1 s c in each remaining st. 32nd Row—Loop st in each s c. Repeat 29th and 30th rows 6 times. 45th Row—1 s c in each s c, then ch 10 for head, ch 1, turn. 46th Row—Work 9 s c on ch and 1 loop st in each s c across back. 47th Row—1 s c in each of the first 39 sts, decrease 1 st (decrease, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through all loop on needle) 1 s c in each of the last 8 sts of head. 48th Row—Work in loop st, decreasing 1 st at end of row. 49th Row—Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row, 1 s c in each remaining st. 50th Row—Loop st in each of the first 18 sts for head, ch 1, turn. 51st Row—Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row, 1 s c in each remaining st. Work 6 rows even, alternating loop st row and s c row. 58th Row—Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row, 1 loop st in each remaining s c. 59th Row—Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row, 1 s c in each remaining loop st. Repeat last 2 rows twice. 64th Row—Same as 58th row, break yarn.

MOUTH. Join yarn in the first st of the 46th row, work 1 s c in each of the 18 rows of head, ch 1, turn. 2nd Row—Decrease 1 s c at the beginning and end of row, 1 s c in each remaining s c. Continue working in s c, decreasing 1 st at the beginning and end of each row, until 2 sts remain, then decrease 1 st, break yarn. Join yarn at back of neck and work 1 loop st in each s c across back, ch 1, turn.

TAIL. 2 s c in first loop st, 1 s c in each of the next 5 loop sts, 2 s c in next loop st, ch 1, turn. 2nd Row—Loop st in each s c, ch 1, turn. 3rd Row—Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row, 1 s c in each remaining s c. 4th Row—Loop st in each s c. Repeat 3rd and 4th rows 4 times, break yarn.

LEFT FRONT LEG. Work the same as first 4 rows of hind leg. 5th Row—1 s c in each loop st. 6th Row— Loop st in each s c. Repeat 5th and 6th rows twice. 11th Row—1 s c in each s c, increasing 1 s c in the last loop st. 12th Row—Loop st in each s c. Repeat 11th and 12th rows twice. 17th Row—Increase 1 s c at the beginning of row and decrease 1 s c at end of row. 18th Row—Loop st in each s c. Repeat last 2 rows once. Work next 4 rows even, alternating loop st row and s c row, break yarn. Sew to body starting at the first s c of 26th row and having the point at knee facing frontward.

RIGHT SIDE OF LAMB. Starting at the hind leg, work the first 24 rows same as left hind leg reversing all increasing and decreasing. At end of 24th row, ch 28 for body, turn. 25th Row—Work 27 s c on ch, 1 s c in each loop st of leg, increasing 1 s c at end of row. 26th Row—1 loop st in each s c. 27th Row—1 s c in each s c, increasing 1 s c at end of row. Work next 16 rows same as left side of lamb. 44th Row—1 loop st in each s c, ch 10 for head, turn. 45th Row—Work 9 s c on ch, 1 s c in each loop st across back. 46th Row—1 loop st in each of the first 39 sts, decrease 1 st by working next 2 sts together, 1 loop st in each remaining s c of head. 47th Row—1 s c in each loop st. 48th Row—1 loop st in each s c, decreasing 1 st at the beginning of row. 49th Row—Work in s c decreasing 1 s c at end of row. 50th Row—Loop st in each s c. 51st Row—1 s c in each of the next 16 sts, decrease by crocheting the next 2 sts together, ch 1, turn. 52nd to 64th Rows—Same as left side.

MOUTH. Same as left side.

TAIL. Join yarn in 7th st from the back of the 50th row, 2 s c in same space with joining, 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts, 2 s c in last st, ch 1, turn. Continue working the same as left tail, reversing all decreasing, break yarn.

RIGHT FRONT LEG. Work same as left front leg, reversing all increasing and decreasing, break yarn.

CENTER HEAD AND MOUTH SECTION. Ch 2, 2 s c in the first st, ch 1, turn each row. 2nd Row—2 s c in first s c, 1 s c in next s c. Continue working in s c increasing 1 s c at beginning of each row, until there are 8 sts in row, then work next 3 rows even. Next Row— 1 loop st in each s c. Next Row—1 s c in each loop st. Repeat last 2 rows 6 times. Next Row—1 loop st in each s c. Next Row—Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row 1 s c in each remaining st. Next Row—1 loop st in each s c. Next Row—1 s c in each loop st, decreasing 1 s c at end of row. Repeat the last 4 rows until 1 st remains, break yarn.

NECK SECTION. Ch 9 and work 8 s c on ch. 2nd Row—1 loop st in each s c. 3rd Row—1 s c in each loop st. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows 6 times. 16th Row—Loop st in each st. 17th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row, 1 s c in each remaining st. 18th Row—1 loop st in each s c. 19th Row—1 s c in each loop st, decreasing 1 st at end of row. Repeat the last 4 rows until 1 st remains, break yarn.

UNDER SECTION. Work 1 section following the first 30 rows of left side and left front leg. Work another section following the first 30 rows of right side and right front leg.

FEET. With Black, ch 2, 6 s c in 2nd ch from hook. Next Row—Without joining, work 2 s c in each s c, break yarn, leaving a length of yarn long enough to embroider three lazy daisy sts.

EARS. Ch 15 and work 14 s c on ch. 2nd Row—1 loop st in each s c. 3rd Row—2 s c in first s c, 1 s c in each remaining st. 4th Row—1 loop st in each st. Repeat 3rd and 4th rows once. 7th Row—Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row. 8th Row—1 loop st in each s c. Repeat 7th and 8th rows once, break yarn.

TO ASSEMBLE LAMB. Match under section to body section, starting at inside of leg, sew up leg, across under part of body and down opposite leg. Sew outside of front leg together, leaving end of legs open for foot. Sew outside of hind leg together Sew other section in same manner. Match body sections, starting at the lower back, sew up back around tail and across back to neck. Sew center head piece in, starting at nose and working to back of neck. Sew the opposite side in same manner. Sew the remainder of mouth down as far as the loop st row. Sew neck section in position, placing the narrow part to first row of loop st at mouth and sew to front of body. Sew opposite side in same manner. Sew the 4 rows of under section to the neck section. Fill with Kapok or Cotton and sew across under side of under sections. Sew feet to legs and with length of Black yarn embroider 3 lazy daisy sts on lower edge of leg for toes. Sew ears in position and embroider mouth as illustrated. Buttons are used for eyes.
