⅛ yard of white felt; scraps of red and black felt … Cotton batting … ½ yard green satin ribbon, ⅝ inch wide.
GAUGE: 5 sc make 1 inch; 6 rnds make 1 inch.
Starting at center top of head, ch 2. 1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (an inc). Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: * Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 5th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 5 sc evenly around—being careful not to have increases fall over previous increases. Repeat 5th rnd until there are 45 sc on rnd. Work 2 rnds without increasing. Next rnd: Sc in each of next 22 sc, 2 sc in each of next 6 sc (front of face), sc in each remaining sc. Following rnd: Place a marker in first sc to indicate start of rnd. Now work 3 rnds without increasing. Next rnd: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 8 sc evenly spaced—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Work 1 rnd without decreasing. Next rnd: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 8 sc evenly spaced. Following rnd: Sc in each sc, decreasing 5 sc evenly spaced. Repeat last rnd once more (25 sc remain). Work 2 rnds without decreasing.
BODY … 1st rnd: Sc in first sc, ch 15, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook (tail end), sc in each of next 13 ch, sc in same sc where first sc was made, sc in next 6 sc, inc 1 sc in next sc, (sc in next 2 sc, inc 1 sc in next sc) twice; sc in next 4 sc, inc 1 sc in next sc, sc in each remaining sc (chest); now, working along the opposite side of the ch-15, sc in each ch across, making 2 sc in last ch (tail end). Next 2 rnds: Sc in each sc, increasing 2 sc at both ends of rnd (tail end) and 4 sc evenly spaced around chest. Work 5 rnds without increasing. Next 2 rnds: Sc in each sc, increasing 2 sc at both ends of the rnd. Following rnd: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 5 sc evenly across chest and across tail end. Repeat last rnd 3 more times. Break off. Find center of chest and attach thread to 16th sc preceding the center, sc in each of next 12 sc, (work off next 2 sc as 1 sc) 4 times; sc in each of next 12 sc, sl st in next sc. Break off.
Stuff Head and Body firmly and sew up opening. Cut 12 strands of Black "Speed-Cro-Sheen," each ¾ inch long. Tie 6 strands together at center and sew in place for each eye. Cut black felt nose and red felt tongue and sew in place. With Red embroider a few outline sts above tongue for mouth. With black thread make 5 whiskers on each side of face. Using white felt cut 1 tail, 2 ears, 4 front leg sections and 4 hind leg sections. Fold tail in half lengthwise and sew long edges together, stuffing lightly. Sew tail and ears in place. Sew leg pieces together, stuffing firmly. Sew legs in place. Tie ribbon around neck.
