Starting at top of head, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc). 3rd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (6 sc increased). 4th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 6 sc evenly around. 5th, 6th and 7th rnds: Repeat 4th rnd. 8th to 14th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. 15th rnd: (Dec 1 sc) 5 times—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc (this is center front of head)—sc in each remaining sc around. 16th, 17th and 18th rnds: Repeat 8th rnd. 19th rnd: Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, ch 7 (neck), skip 19 sc, 2 sc in next sc on opposite side of muzzle, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. 20th rnd: Sc in each sc and in each ch around. 21st and 22nd rnds: Sc in each sc around. 23rd, 24th and 25th rnds: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 7 sc around. Break off, leaving a 6-inch length of thread. Sew up opening.
NECK … 1st rnd: Attach thread to first sc of the 19 sc skipped, sc in each sc around, then sc in each ch of ch-7. 2nd to 6th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. With pin, mark the center back of head. 7th rnd: Sc in each sc around to pin mark, ch 10. Break off. 8th rnd: Attach thread to same sc as last sc was made, sc in each sc around to ch, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of chain, sc in each ch across. 9th rnd: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of 3-sc group. 10th, 11th and 12th rnds: Repeat 9th rnd. 13th to 17th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. 18th to 21st rnds incl: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 2 sc at tail. Break off. Attach yarn to 15th sc preceding center front. 22nd row: Sc in next 7 sc, (dec 1 sc) 8 times; sc in next 7 sc. Turn. 23rd row: Sc in next 5 sc, (dec 1 sc) 6 times; sc in next 5 sc. Break off. Sew lower edges together, stuffing before opening becomes too small.
MANE … Wind yarn 40 times around a piece of cardboard 1½ inches wide. Tie a length of yarn around strands at one end. Cut loops at other end (tassel made). Make 9 more tassels and sew in place for mane. Trim evenly. Tie a bow of ribbon on bell and sew at front of mane above first tassel.
Cut legs, tail and inside of ears from white felt. Cut hooves, tail tassel, eyelashes and outside of ears from black felt. Cut whites of eyes from white felt and pupils from blue felt. Sew leg pieces together and stuff. Fold tail, sew and stuff. Roll tassel into a circle and sew to tail. Sew hooves in place at bottom of legs. Sew legs, tail, eyes and eyelashes in place. Sew ear pieces together, fold and sew in place. With Black, embroider nostrils and mouth with straight stitches.
