The above amount of material is sufficient to make a chair seat about 16 inches square and a pot holder 7 inches square.
GAUGE: 10 sts measure 1 inch; 4 rows measure 1 inch.
To Change Color: Before drawing through last 2 loops of last dc of one color group, drop this color, pick up next color, thread over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook. Continue with new color according to directions, carrying the dropped color along top of previous row and working over it to conceal it.
CHAIR SEAT
TOP … With Ecru, ch 155 to measure 16 inches. 1st row: Holding Dark and Light Green strands along top of chain, with Ecru make dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 7 ch (thus concealing colors), changing from Ecru to Dark Green in last dc of Ecru group. * With Dark Green, make dc in next 2 ch, carrying Ecru and Light Green concealed in the dc's and changing to Light Green in the 2nd Dark Green dc. With Light Green, make dc in 5 ch, carrying Ecru and Dark Green as before and changing to Ecru in the last Light Green dc. With Ecru, make dc in next 9 ch, carrying Light and Dark Greens and changing to Dark Green in the last dc of Ecru color group. Repeat from * across (153 dc. counting turning ch-3 as 1 dc). With Ecru, ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Carrying unused colors and changing colors as before, make 8 Ecru dc, * 5 Light Green dc. 2 Dark Green dc, 9 Ecru dc. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top st of turning chain. With Light Green, ch 3, turn. Drop Ecru. 3rd row: Carrying Dark Green, make 8 Light Green dc. * 2 Dark Green dc, 14 Light Green dc. Repeat from * across. With Dark Green, ch 1, turn. 4th row: Carrying Light Green, make sc in each dc, sc in top st of turning chain. With Ecru, ch 3, turn. 5th row: Repeat 2nd row. Repeat 2nd to 5th rows incl 15 more times. Break off Ecru and Dark Green. With Light Green, work sc evenly all around edge. Join and break off.
PAD … Cut two 17-inch squares of lining material. Sew three sides together on wrong side, allowing ½ inch all around for seams. Turn right side out and slip a layer of cotton batting inside. Turn in ½ inch and close opening. Sew Top to Pad.
POT HOLDER
With Ecru, ch 67 to measure 7 inches. 1st row: Working in same manner as for Chair Seat, with Ecru make dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 3 ch, * with Dark Green, make dc in next 2 ch; with Light Green, make dc in 5 ch; with Ecru, make dc in 9 ch. Repeat from * across, ending with 5 Ecru dc. With Ecru, ch 3, turn. Now work in pattern as for Chair Seat until piece is square. Break off Ecru and Dark Green. With Light Green, work sc evenly around. Join and break off. Line with 2 thicknesses of lining material. For ring, with Light Green, ch 12. Join with sl st to form ring. Work 16 sc in ring. Break off. Sew ring to one corner of pot holder.
