Bear Hanger Pattern

J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN" METALLIC, Art. A.64: 2 balls of No. M.51 Spice; and
COATS & CLARK'S O.N.T. SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY FLOSS, Art. C.11: 1 skein each of No. 1 White, No. 12 Black, No. 52-A Cruise Brown and No. 140 Signal Red.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
A child's plastic coat hanger … Cotton batting.

GAUGE: 8 sc make 1 inch; 8 rnds make 1 inch.

HANGER COVER … With Spice, work as for Elephant Hanger.

HEAD … Starting at nose with Spice, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc). Sc in each sc around until piece measures ½ inch, then sc in each sc, increasing 6 sc evenly on each rnd until piece measures 2 inches. Next rnd: Sc in each sc around. Join and break off.

BACK … Work as for Back of Elephant Hanger.
   Stuff Head and sew to hanger as before. Embroider eyes with Black and White Embroidery Floss, nose with Black and mouth with Red.

EAR (Make 2) … Starting at bottom, ch 20. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, sc in each ch around. 2nd rnd: (Sc in next 8 sc, work off next 2 sc as 1 sc—dec made) twice. Sc in each sc around, decreasing 2 sc over previ­ous decreases on each rnd until all sc's have been worked off. Break off. Stuff Ears and sew to Head. Em­broider ears and face with Cruise Brown.

CLAW (Make 2) … Ch 15. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, sc in each ch around. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (30 sc). Sc in each sc until piece measures 1 inch, fold piece and, working through both thicknesses, * sc in next sc, in next sc make half dc, dc and half dc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Break off. Stuff lightly and sew one to each end of hanger.
