A maze of petals … twisting, turning, in ever-opening blossoms. Delicately joined, a cloth beguilingly filmy that is really a joy to crochet.

MATERIALS:
CLARK'S BIG BALL MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 20, 13 balls of White or Ecru.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 5 inches in diameter. For a tablecloth 60 x 80 inches, make 12 x 16 motifs.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 6. Join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 19 d c in ring. Sl st in top of ch-3. 2nd rnd: * Ch 5, s c in next d c. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, d c at base of ch-5 first made (20 loops). 3rd, 4th and 5th rnds: * Ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around ending with ch 2, d c in d c of previous rnd. 6th rnd: Make ch-6 loops around ending with ch 3, d c in d c. 7th rnd: Make ch-7 loops around ending with ch 3, tr in d c. 8th rnd: Make ch-8 loops around ending with ch 8, sl st in tr. 9th rnd: 9 s c in each loop around. 10th rnd: Sl st in next 4 s c, s c in next s c, * ch 10, s c in center s c of next loop. Repeat from * around ending with ch 10; sl st in 1st s c made. 11th rnd: * 6 s c in next loop, ch 4, s c in 4th ch from hook (a picot made), 6 s c in same loop. Repeat from * around ending with sl st in 1st s c made. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work as for First Motif to 10th rnd incl. 11th rnd: * 6 s c in next loop, ch 2, s c in a p on First Motif, ch 2, s c in ch following 6 s c (thus completing a picot), 6 s c in same loop on Second Motif. Repeat from * 2 more times. Now complete rnd as for First Motif (no more joinings). Make necessary number of motifs, joining adjacent sides as Second Motif was joined to First. There are 2 free p's between joinings on each motif.

FILL-IN LACE … 1st rnd: Ch 4, 15 d c in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st to top of ch-4. 2nd rnd: Ch 8, s c in a free p between joinings on any motif, * ch 8, skip 1 d c on fill-in lace, make s c in next d c, ch 8, s c in next free p. Repeat from * around ending with ch 8, s c at base of ch-8 first made. Fasten off. Fill in all spaces between motifs in this manner.
