Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "GEM" HAT and BAG YARN, Article 144
4 skeins White.
1 skein Black for bag.
- or -
"DAWN" SOCK and SWEATER YARN
4 ozs. White.
1 oz. Black for bag.
Aluminum crochet hook size H for Hat and Bag Yarn.
Plastic crochet hook size I for wool.
½ yd. material for lining.
½ yd. buckram.
1 ornamental button.

If "Dawn" Sock and Sweater Yarn is used, work with a double strand of yarn throughout.

BAG

With White ch 40 to measure about 11 inches, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows.

2nd Row: 1 s c in each s c. Repeat last row 72 times, cut yarn. Section should measure about 18 inches from beginning, turn.

Next Row: Attach White in 19th st of last row, 5 s c in next s c, sl st in next st, cut yarn, turn.

Next Row: Attach White in 15th st of last s c row, 3 long d c in each s c of the 5 s c group, skip 3 s c, sl st in next s c, cut yarn, turn.

Next Row: Attach White in 1st st of last s c row, s c in same space, 1 s c in each of the next 13 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 6 long d c, 2 s c in next long d c, s c in next long d c, 2 s c in next long dc, 1 s c in each of the next 6 long d c, 1 s c in each of the next 14 s c, ch 1, turn.

Next Row: S c in same space, drop White, attach Black, tr c in next s c, drop Black, with White s c in next sc, * with Black tr c in next s c, with White s c in next s c, repeat from * across row, cut yarn, do not turn.

Next Row: Attach White in 1st s c, ch 1, s c in same space, 1 s c in each remaining st, cut yarn. Cut buckram about ¼ inch smaller than bag. Cut lining ¼ inch larger all around than bag. With "star" mercerized sewing thread sew buckram to wrong side of bag about ½ inch from edges. Turn lining under buckram and sew to bag. Fold bag leaving a of top section free for front overlap. Overcast sides of lower section together with "Gem" Hat and Bag Yarn or "Dawn" Sock and Sweater Yarn. Sew button in position as illustrated.
