MATERIALS … Choose one of the following threads in size 20, White or Ecru:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls.
J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 1 ball.
J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, 1 ball.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8 or 9.
½ yd. linen, 18 inches wide.

GAUGE: 5 sps or bls make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

FILET CORNER … (Make 4). Starting at bottom of chart, make a chain about 7 inches long. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across until 76 d c in all are made (counting turning ch-3 as 1 d c). Cut off remaining chain. Turn. 2nd row: Sl st in each of 1st 4 d c, ch 3 (to count as d c), d c in each d c across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: D c in each of next 6 d c (2 bls made), * ch 2, skip 2 d c, d c in next d c (1 sp made). Repeat from * across to within 6th d c from end of row (20 sps made), d c in each of last 3 d c (1 bl made). Turn. 4th row: Sl st in each of 1st 4 d c, ch 3, 2 d c in ch-2 sp, d c in next d c (another bl made), ch 2, d c in next d c; make 6 more sps, 3 bls, 3 sps, 2 bls, 1 sp, 2 bls, 1 sp, 2 bls. Ch 3, turn. Hereafter follow chart, making decreases as before, until corner is completed. Fasten and break off. Cut linen 13 x 18 inches, and make a ¼-inch hem all around, omitting corners. Sew crocheted corners to linen as in illustration. Cut away excess linen, and make a ¼-inch hem at corners.
