MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Best Six Cord Mer­cerized Crochet, Size 50 (Small Ball), 4 balls of White … Steel Crochet Hook No. 12 … 1 yard of yellow linen.

PLACE DOILY (Make 2)—Motifs (Make 106) … Starting at center, ch 7. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 24 sc in ring. Sl st in first sc. 2nd rnd: Attach a new piece of thread and working over original thread make 9 sc over it. Ch 1, turn. * Make sc in next 9 sc, picking up the back loop only of each sc and working over origi­nal thread in order to conceal it, skip 1 sc on ring, sc in next sc concealing original thread as before (one petal made). Ch 1, turn. Sc in each of next 4 sc on last petal picking up front loop of each sc only and working over original thread; now make 5 sc over original thread (9 sc in all). Ch 1, turn. Repeat from * until 12 petals in all are made. Skip 1 sc on ring, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. Cut off original thread and join the first and last petals together by slip stitching together the last 4 sc at base of both petals. Break off.

Cut a piece of yellow linen, 12 inches in diameter. Starch motifs lightly and press. Pin 30 motifs in place along outer edges of linen. Work in blanket st along inner edge of motifs, thus forming scallops. Cut off excess linen.

BREAD AND BUTTER DOILY (Make 2) … Cut a piece of yellow linen, 6 inches in diameter. Pin 14 motifs in place along outer edges and finish as for Place Doily.

GLASS DOILY (Make 2) … Cut a piece of yellow linen, 4 inches in diam­eter. Pin 9 motifs in place along outer edges and finish as for Place Doily.
