Materials:
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercer­ized Crochet Size 30 White, Ecru, or Boilfast solid or shaded colors.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7, 8 or 9.

Ch 16, turn. 1st row: 4 d c in 6th st from hook, 3 sp, ch 5, turn. 2nd row: 4 sp * making last d c in 1st d c of last row, 3 d c in sp, ch 2, 1 d c in same sp to make increase at top edge. Repeat from * to increase on this end of 4th and 6th rows. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: 3 d c in increased sp of last row, 1 d c in 1st d c, 1 sp, 3 bl, 1 sp, ch 5, turn. 4th row: 1 sp, 3 bl, 2 sp, increase as for 2nd row, ch 5, turn. 5th row: 3 d c into sp, 1 d c in 1st d c, 3 sp, 3 bl, 1 sp, ch 5, turn. 6th row: 8 sp, increase as for second row (this is the end of the scallop). Edge: Attach thread at end of 1st row, * 2 s c in sp, in next sp make 1 s c, 1 p and 1 s c. Repeat from * twice; in center sp work 2 more p with s c between. Work around edge omitting p in corner between scallops.
