Shell Washcloth Edging Pattern

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. PEARL COTTON, Art. A. or B.19, Size 5: 1 ball each of No. 11 Orange and No. 8 Blue; or
J. & P. Coats "Knit-Cro-Sheen," Art. A.64: 1 ball each of 2 colors of your own choice; or
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Bedspread Cotton, Art. B.504: 1 ball each of 2 colors of your own choice.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
A blue washcloth.

EDGING … Starting at narrow edge with Orange, ch 6. 1st row: * Holding back on hook the last loop of each sc, make sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 4 ch, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (sc-cluster made), ch 10. Repeat from * until piece is slightly longer than outer edge of washcloth, ending with ch 3, sl st in tip of first cluster.

HEADING … Now work around inner edge as follows: 1st rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 2, sc in next sp, ch 2, sc in tip of next cluster. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. 2nd rnd: Attach Blue to first sc, sc in same place, * 2 sc in next sp, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. 3rd rnd: Attach Orange to first sc, sc in each sc around. Join and break off.

SCALLOPED EDGE … Attach Blue to sp preceding any scallop, sc in same sp, * sc in each st around scallop, sc in next 2 sps. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Sew edging to washcloth.
