MATERIAL:
6 skeins Baby Yarn, Orlon Sayelle or Wintuk Baby Yarn (1 oz. skein)
1 aluminum crochet hook No. 4 or E
6 buttons
Trimming for pocket

GAUGE: 3 star sts. = 1 inch

STAR STITCH PATTERN:
1st row: Insert hook in 2nd st. from hook and draw up a loop, draw up a loop in each of the next 3 sts. (5 loops on hook), y.o. and draw through all loops on hook, ch. 1 to form eye of star, * draw up a loop in the eye of previous star st., in back loop of last drawn up loop on same star st. and in each of the next 2 ch., y.o., and draw through all loops on hook (5 loops on hook), ch. 1 to form eye of star (star st. made). Repeat from * across row, end 1 s.c. in last st., ch. 1, turn.
2nd row: 1 s.c. in each st. across row, 1 s.c. in top of turning ch., ch. 2, turn.
3rd row: Draw up a loop in 2nd ch. from hook,, 1 s.c. in each of next 3 s.c. and finish star st., * draw up a loop in eye of previous star st., in back loop of last drawn up loop on same star st. and 1 loop in each of the next 2 s.c., y.o. and draw through all loops on hook. Repeat from * across row, end 1 s.c. in last s.c., ch. 1, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd row alternately for pattern.

BACK:
With No. 4 crochet hook ch. 12 inch. (approx. 66 sts.) and work in pattern for 7½ inch. or any des. length to underarm. Shape Armhole: Work slip st. over first 6 sts. work in pattern to within 6 sts. of end of row, ch. 2, turn. Work even until armhole measures 5 inch., ending with a s.c. row. Fasten off.

FRONT:
With No. 4 crochet hook ch. 6 inch. (approx. 34 sts.) and work as back to underarm. Shape Armhole: Work slip st. over first 6 sts., work in pattern to end of row. Work even until armhole measures 3½ inch., ending at center edge, ch. 1, turn. Shape Neck: Slip st. over first 6 sts., * work to end of row, ch. 2, turn, work to within 2 sts. of end of row, ch. 1, turn. Repeat from * 3 times more (shoulder is now 2¾ inch. wide). Work as high as back and fasten off. Work the other front to correspond.

SLEEVE:
With No. 4 crochet hook ch. 5½ inch. (approx. 34 sts.) and work in pattern for 1½ inch. Incr. 1 pattern at each end of row every 1 inch until sleeve measures 7½ inch. in width (21 star sts.). Work even until the entire sleeve measures 9½ inch. or any des. length to underarm. Shape Cap: Work slip st. over first 6 sts., work in pattern to within 6 sts. of end of row, ch. 2, turn. * Work to within 1 st. of end of row, ch. 1, turn, repeat from * until cap measures 4 inch. Fasten off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

POCKET:
With No. 4 crochet hook ch. 3 inch. (approx. 20 sts.) and work in pattern for 2½ inch. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves. Crochet 5 rows s.c. (approx. 70 s.c.) down one side of front. On other side crochet 1 row s.c.. make buttonholes in next row as follows: 1 s.c. in each of next 2 sts., * ch. 2, skip 2. 1 s.c. in each of the next 11 s.c., repeat from * to end of row, end 1 s.c. in each of the last 3 s.c., ch. 1, turn. Work 3 more rows s.c. on this side. Crochet 3 rows s.c. around neck edge (approx, 60 sts.) and fasten off. Sew pocket to cardigan as shown in picture, sew buttons and trimming in place and block to size.
