AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "STAR" MERCERIZED TATTING COTTON
2 75-yd. Balls White or any Color desired.
4¾ inch Square of Linen.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 11.

Turn in a narrow hem all around square, then working over hem, join thread in center of one side and work a double knot st, (double knot st: * pull up a loop about ¼ inch on hook, thread over and pull through ch, s c in single loop of st, repeat from *) skip ⅛ inch space, s c in next space, * single knot st, (single knot st: pull a loop about ¼ inch on hook, thread over and pull through ch, s c in single loop of st) skip ⅛ inch space, s c in next space, repeat from * all around working 2 single knot sts in each corner and having 26 single knot sts on each side. Join all rows in center s c of double knot st.
2nd Row—Sl st to single loop of same double knot st, double knot st, s c in single loop of single knot st, * single knot st in single loop of next single knot st, repeat from * all around.
3rd Row—Same as 2nd row, but working 2 single knot sts in each corner knot st. Repeat 3rd row 7 times.
11th Row—Sl st to single loop of double knot st, ch 3, s c in single loop of single knot st, * ch 3, s c in next single loop of next single knot st, repeat from * to corner, in corner, ch 3, s c in same space, continue all around working all corners in same manner, join. (148 loops in row.)
12th Row—5 s c over loop, * s c in next loop, ch 1, 7 d c with ch 1 between each d c in next loop, ch 1, s c in next loop, 5 s c over next loop, repeat from * all around, join.
13th Row—Sl st to center s c of s c group, ** ch 5, d c between next 2 d c, * ch 2, d c in next 1 ch loop, repeat from * 4 times, ch 5, s c in center s c of next s c group, repeat from ** all around.
14th Row—Sl st to center of loop, ** ch 3, cluster st in next loop, (cluster st: thread over needle twice, insert in loop and work off 2 loops twice, * thread over, insert in same space and work off 2 loops twice, repeat from *, thread over and work off remaining loops at one time) ch 5, sl st in top of cluster st for picot, * ch 3, cluster st in next loop, picot, repeat from * 3 times, ch 3, thread over needle, insert in next loop and work off 2 loops, thread over needle, insert in next loop and work off 2 loops, thread over and work off remaining loops at one time, repeat from ** all around, join.
