MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 20: Small Ball: J. & P. Coats—8 balls of White or Ecru, or Clark's O.N.T.—10 balls of White or Ecru … Steel Crochet Hook No. 9.

GAUGE: 13 sts make 1 inch; 2 d tr rows and the dc row between make 1 inch.

CHAIR BACK … Starting at long side, ch 228 to measure 17½ inches. 1st row: Dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch, * ch 5, skip 5 ch, dc in next ch, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch) twice. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: * (D tr in next sp, d tr in next dc) twice; skip 2 ch, in next ch make d tr, ch 3 and d tr; d tr in next dc. Repeat from * across, ending with d tr in last sp, d tr in turning chain. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: Skip next 2 d tr, dc in next d tr, ch 1, skip next d tr, dc in next 2 d tr, * 3 dc in next sp, dc in next 2 d tr, (ch 1, skip 1 d tr, dc in next d tr) twice; dc in next d tr. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of turning chain. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: * (D tr in next sp, d tr in next dc) twice; ch 2, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr make d tr in next dc, skip 3 dc, d tr in next dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (joint d tr made), ch 2, d tr in next dc. Repeat from * across. EDGING ... 1st rnd: D tr closely along side, making d tr in each ch-1 sp, d tr in each dc, 5 d tr in each ch-5 sp; in corner sp make 2 d tr, ch 9 and 2 d tr; d tr closely along next side and complete remaining 2 sides to correspond, working corners as before. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, * skip next d tr, dc in next d tr. Repeat from * across to corner, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch) twice; 5 dc in next ch, dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1, dc in next d tr. Work in this manner all around. Join. 3rd rnd: Sc in each dc and in each sp around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join and break off.

ARM PIECE (Make 2) … Starting at narrow edge, ch 108 to measure 8 inches. Work exactly as for Chair Back.
