A simple puff stitch pattern crocheted in variegated colors that add interest to the design.

Afghan measures 44 x 60 inches … Motifs measure 4¾ inches square

COATS & CLARK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E. 230-B (2 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 13 skeins of No. 990 Roses; and
COATS & CLARK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 4 Ply, Art. E. 234 (4 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 7 skeins of No. 970 Greens and 5 skeins of No. 12 Black.
Aluminum or Plastic Crochet Hook, Size H.

MOTIF (Make 117) … Starting at center with Roses, ch 5. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 12 sc in ring. Join to first sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 4 to measure ¾ inch, (yarn over, draw up a loop in joining) 4 times; yarn over and draw through all loops on hook (puff st made); ch 1, make another puff st in joining, ch 1, * (puff st in next sc, ch 1) twice; in next sc make (puff st, ch 1) twice. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 1. Join to top of first puff st (16 puff sts). 3rd rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining, sc in next sp (sc in top of next puff st, sc in next sp) 15 times. Join to first sc. 4th rnd: Sl st loosely in each st around. Break off. 5th rnd: Picking up the back loop only of sc on next-to-last rnd throughout, attach Black in any sc, ch 1, sc in same sc, * 2 h dc in next sc, 3 dc in next sc (corner made); 2 h dc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. Repeat from * around ending with sc in last 4 sc. Join (48 sts). 6th rnd: Repeat 4th rnd. 7th rnd: Picking up back loop only of sts on next-to-last rnd throughout, attach Greens to the h dc preceding the dc's at any corner, ch 1, sc in same h dc, * sl st in next 3 dc, sc in next 2 h dc, h dc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, 3 tr in next sc (corner made); 2 dc in next sc, h dc in next sc, sc in next 2 h dc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in last h dc. Join. 8th rnd: Repeat 4th rnd.
With right sides together and working through the sts of next-to-last rnd, sew 9 x 13 motifs together (sl sts on last rnd remain free on right side).
BORDER … 1st rnd (right side): Working through both loops of next-to-last rnd, attach Black in any corner tr, ch 3, 4 dc in same tr, * dc in each st across to within next corner tr, 5 tr in corner tr. Repeat from * around. Join to top of ch-3. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, turn, sl st loosely in each dc around. Break off. Block to measurements.
