Tweed Pouch Pattern #261

Materials: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball color 55 Navy Blue, 1 ball of White, or other color combination desired. Milward’s steel crochet hook No. 3 or 4. Talon Hookless Fastener, 5 inches long.

With double strand, 1 Navy Blue and 1 White, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3 (to count as half d c), 9 half d c’s into ring. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, d c into back loop of next st, * 2 d c into back loop of next st and repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, * d c into back loop of each of next 2 sts, 2 d c in next and repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3. 4th and 5th rnds: Work as before, making increases when necessary to keep work flat. 6th rnd: Ch 3, d c into back loop of next st, ch 3, s c in same st, * skip next 2 sts and make 2 d c into back loop of next st, ch 3, s c into same st. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 1st st of ch-3.

7th rnd: Ch 3, * s c over next ch-3 loop, ch 3, 2 d c in same sp, ch 1, and repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 1st st of ch-3. 8th rnd: Ch 3, d c over next ch-3 loop, ch 3, s c in same sp, ch 1, * 2 d c over next ch-3 loop, ch 3, s c in same sp, ch 1, and repeat from * around. 9th rnd: Same as 7th rnd.

Make other side to correspond. Then fasten the two sides together as follows: 1st row: Attach double thread, ch 3, 2 d c over ch-3 loops of both sides, ch 3, s c in same sp, * ch 1, 3 d c over next ch-3 loops, ch 3, s c in same sp, and repeat from * leaving 9 patterns free across top of bag. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 2 d c over ch-3 loop, ch 3, s c in same sp, * ch 1, 3 d c over next loop, ch 3, s c in same sp, repeat from * along previous row.

Handle: Ch 53. 1st row: 1 half d c in 3rd ch from hook and 1 half d c in each st of ch. Ch 3, turn, and make 3 more rows of half d c’s in half d c’s of previous row. Line bag, sew in Talon Hookless Fastener across curve at top, and attach handle at each end of fastener.
