MATERIALS: CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 6 balls (1 oz. balls) of Green ... Bone Crochet Hook No. 5 ... ½ yard of felt.
GAUGE: 5 star sts make 2 inches.
Starting at flap edge, make a chain about 15 inches long (5 ch sts to 1 inch). 1st row: Sc (loosely) in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures 12 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Insert hook in 2nd ch and draw loop through, insert hook in next ch and draw loop through, (insert hook at base of next sc and draw loop through) twice; yarn over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (star st made). * Insert hook in fastening ch and draw loop through, insert hook in last loop of last star st and draw loop through, insert hook where last loop of last star st was made and draw loop through, insert hook at base of next sc and draw loop through, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 (another star st made). Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in fastening ch of each star st across, sc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 21 inches, ending with the 2nd row. Break off.
GUSSET (Make 2) ••• Starting at bottom, ch 2. 1st rnd: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in 1st sc. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. Join. Work is now done in rows. 1st row: Ch 24 (to measure 6 inches). Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sc in each sc around circular piece, increasing as necessary to keep work flat. Then work along opposite side of starting chain, making sc in each ch across. Turn. 2nd row: Sl st in next 10 sc, sc in each sc across to within last 10 sc, increasing at curved end as before. Sl st in last 10 sc. Break off.
Block bag piece to measure 12 x 21 inches. Cut lining to correspond with crocheted pieces and line. Fold bag and sew Gussets in place. Trim flap as desired. Fasten with snap fasteners.
