MATERIALS:
CLARK'S O.N.T. "BRITA-SHEEN," 17 balls.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 3 inches from p to opposite p across center. Completed cloth measures 60 x 80 inches.

FIRST MOTIF … 1st rnd: Starting at center, ch 4, 11 d c in 4th ch from hook. Sl st in top st of ch-4 first made. 2nd rnd: Ch 6, d c in same place as sl st, * ch 4, skip 2 d c, in next d c make d c, ch 3 and d c. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4, sl st in 3rd st of ch-6 first made. 3rd rnd: Sl st in next ch, s c in next sp, ch 4, 3 tr in same sp, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster made), ch 5, 4 tr in same sp, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (another cluster made); * ch 5, skip next ch-4, in next ch-3 sp make two 4-tr clusters with ch 5 between. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, sl st in tip of 1st cluster made. 4th rnd: S c in same place as sl st, * ch 7, in next sp make a 5-tr cluster, ch 7, s c in tip of next cluster, ch 7, s c in tip of next cluster. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 7, sl st in 1st s c made. 5th rnd: 5 s c in next ch-7 loop, ch 4, s c in 4th ch from hook (p made), 5 s c in same loop, * p, in each of next 3 loops make 5 s c, p and 5 s c. Repeat from * around, ending with 5 s c, p and 5 s c in last loop, sl st in 1st s c made. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work as for First Motif to 4th rnd incl. 5th rnd: Work as for First Motif to within 3rd p, ch 2, s c in corresponding p of First Motif, ch 2, s c in 2nd ch from joining, 5 s c in same loop on motif in work, and continue around as for First Motif, joining next 2 p's as before.
   Make 20 x 27 motifs, joining adjacent sides as Second Motif was joined to First (do not join corner p's).

FILL-IN LACE … Ch 5. Join with sl st. * 2 s c in ring, ch 2, s c in free corner p, ch 2. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 1st s c made. Fasten off. Fill in all spaces between joinings in same way.
