MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 19 balls of White or Ecru, or 31 balls of any color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 4½ inches in diameter. Completed tablecloth measures about 70 x 90 inches.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, wind thread 10 times around little finger of left hand. 1st rnd: Slip strands off finger; 24 s c in ring. Join with sl st to 1st s c made. 2nd rnd: Ch 5 (to count as d tr); * d tr in next 3 s c, in next s c make d tr, ch 5 and d tr. Repeat from * around, ending with d tr at base of ch-5 first made, ch 5, sl st in 5th st of starting ch-5 (6 d tr-groups). 3rd rnd: Ch 5, d tr in next 4 d tr, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster made). * Ch 5, in center st of next ch-5 make d c, ch 5 and d c; ch 5, d tr in next 5 d tr, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (another cluster made). Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, sl st in tip of 1st cluster made. 4th rnd: Ch 11, d tr in tip of same cluster, * skip next ch-5, in ch-5 sp between d c's make 2 d tr, ch 6 and 2 d tr; skip next ch-5, in tip of next cluster make d tr, ch 6 and d tr. Repeat from * around, ending with skip next ch-5, sl st in 5th st of ch-11. 5th rnd: S c in same place as sl st, * in next loop make 3 s c, ch 4, s c in 4th ch from hook (p made); 2 s c, p, 2 s c, p and 3 s c, skip next d tr, s c in next 2 d tr. Repeat from * around, ending with s c in last d tr. Sl st in 1st s c made. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work as for First Motif to 4th rnd incl. 5th rnd: S c in same place as sl st, in next loop make 3 s c, ch 2, s c in corresponding p of First Motif, ch 2, s c in 2nd ch from joining (thus joining 2 p's), and continue as for First Motif, joining next 5 p's as before. Complete rnd as for First Motif.
   Make 331 motifs in all, joining adjacent picots as Second Motif was joined to First (see diagram).
