Simplicity Jr Collar and Cuffs Pattern #2214

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, 3 balls of White, size 40. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 11 or 12. 3 small buttons.

Collar. Starting at neck edge, ch 4 and make d c in 4th ch from hook (1 sp made). Ch 3, turn. * D c in sp just made, ch 3, turn. Repeat from * until 90 sps are made, and work measures not less than 15 inches across. Then, ch 4 and work across the row as follows: 1st row: D c in 1st sp, ch 1, d c in same sp, * ch 1, d c in next sp, ch 1, d c in same sp. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: D c in 1st ch-1 sp, * ch 1, d c in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: Same as 2nd row, making 13 increases at regular intervals (to increase 1 st, make 2 d c with ch-1 between in 1 sp). Ch 4, turn. 4th row: Same as 2nd row. 5th row: Same as 3rd row. Ch 4, turn. 6th and 7th rows: Same as 2nd row (206 sps). Ch 4, turn. 8th row: 12 sps, ch 1, 3 d c in next sp (1 bl made), * 17 sps, ch 1, 1 bl in next sp, repeat from * across, ending row with 13 sps. Ch 4, turn. 9th row: Make 12 sps, ch 1, 1 bl, ch 1, skip next bl, make 1 bl in next sp, * 16 sps, ch 1, 1 bl, ch 1, skip next bl, 1 bl. Repeat from * across, ending row with 12 sps. Ch 4, turn. 10th row: 11 sps, ch 1, * 1 bl, ch 1, 1 bl, ch 1, 1 bl, 15 sps, ch 1, repeat from * across, ending row with 12 sps. 11th row: Same as 9th row. 12th row: 12 sps, ch 1, 1 bl, * 17 sps, ch 1, 1 bl, repeat from * across, ending row with 13 sps. Ch 4, turn. 13th row: 13 sps, * ch 1, d c in center d c of bl, ch 1, d c in next sp, 17 more sps. Repeat from * across, ending row with 13 sps. Ch 4, turn. 14th row: Same as 2nd row. Ch 4, turn. 15th row: Same as 2nd row, but making 12 increases instead of 13 increases. Ch 4, turn. 16th row: Same as 2nd row. Break off.

Edging. Attach thread to one end of foundation row and, working across short side, make 1 bl over 1st d c of 1st row, * ch 1, 1 bl over 1st d c of next row, repeat from * to next corner. Then, ch 1, 1 bl in corner sp, ch 1, 1 bl in same corner sp. ** Ch 1, skip 1 sp, 1 bl in next sp, repeat from ** along outer edge and continue down other short side to correspond. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: 1 bl in 1st sp, * ch 1, 1 bl in next sp. Repeat from * around (except neck edge), making corners as for previous row. Work a row of s c across neck edge. Break off. Make a ch-8 loop on one end of collar and sew a button on opposite end to correspond.

Cuffs. Starting at wrist, work as for collar making 40 sps for foundation row (to measure about 7½ inches), and omitting increases after 2nd row. In the 1st row of block pattern work as follows: 16 sps, * 1 bl, 16 sps, repeat from * across. Continue in pattern as for collar. Fasten cuff in same way as for collar.
