In Spool Cotton Co. #85, Bedspreads, this pattern is called Dawn.
There are slight variations to materials and instructions between these two versions of the same pattern in different publications. Two versions are below.
Spool Cotton #32, The Book of Bedspreads
MATERIALS:
1 Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7
Choose one of the following threads:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen (approx. 66 balls)
Clark's O.N.T. Lustersheen (approx. 51 skeins)
Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton (approx. 51 balls)
This amount is sufficient for a double size spread in White or Ecru. Color requires about one-third more.
Gauge: Each block measures about 7½ inches across from side to side, and requires about 95 yards of thread.
For a double size spread (about 90 x 116 inches), or a single size spread (about 75 x 116 inches), make the necessary amount of blocks and then join them together to correspond with measurement.
In joining blocks the scallops across the top and bottom are not the same as those along the sides, as shown in illustration. To curve corners at bottom, make strips of 11 blocks along each side. The other strips are made of 12 and 11 blocks alternately.
To begin, ch 4 and join in ring with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3 (ch 3 at beginning of each rnd is counted as 1 d c throughout directions. End each rnd with a sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made). Make 17 d c in ring. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, 2 d c, * ch 3, 3 d c, and repeat from * to end of rnd. There should be 6 groups of 3-dc with ch-3 between. 3rd rnd: Picking up only the back loop of sts throughout blocks, ch 3, 1 d c in each of next 2 d c, 1 d c in 1st st of ch-3 of previous rnd, * ch 3, 1 d c in last st of same ch-3, 1 d c in each of next 3 d c, 1 d c in 1st st of next ch-3, and repeat from * four times more, then ch 3, 1 d c in last st of ch-3 of previous rnd. 4th rnd: Ch 3, 1 d c in each of next 3 d c, 1 d c in 1st st of ch-3 of previous rnd, * ch 3, 1 d c in last st of same ch-3, 1 d c in each of next 5 d c, 1 d c in 1st st of next ch-3, and repeat from * four times more, then ch 3, 1 d c in last st of ch-3, 1 d c in 1st d c of previous rnd.

Sew blocks together on wrong side (see diagram), and when desired size is obtained, make ch-4 loops all around bedspread. Knot 1 fringe in each loop.
To Make a Fringe: Cut 4 strands, each 10 inches long. Double these strands forming a loop. Pull loop through sp on motif and draw loose ends of fringe through this loop. Pull tight. When fringe has been worked along edge, trim evenly.
Spool Cotton #173, Old and New Favorites

GAUGE: Using the materials recommended, each block measures 7½" across and requires about 90 yds. of thread. About 4 balls are required for bedspread fringe.
BLOCK … Slight cupping of block, which is unavoidable, will be taken care of by blocking. Starting at center, ch 4. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring. Sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, * dc in next dc; in next dc make dc, ch 3 and dc. Repeat from * around, ending with dc at base of ch-3 first made, ch 3, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3. Hereafter pick up only the back loop of each dc. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * dc in next ch, ch 4, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch, dc in next 3 dc.
