There are slight variations to materials and instructions between these two versions of the same pattern in different publications. Two versions are below.
Wheel of Fortune Pattern #204 from Spool Cotton #32, The Book of Bedspreads.
Materials:
J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord or Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3 or 4.
About 21 yds. of thread are required for making one complete motif. If 2 colors are used, allow about 11 yds. for the 2nd and 4th rnds, and 9 yds. for the 1st and 3rd rnds. Note the number of yds. indicated on the ball of thread to determine the amount of material necessary for the article to be made. A full sized double bedspread requires about 30 motifs in width and 36 motifs in length. This design is particularly attractive when the 1st and 3rd rnds are made in one color and the 2nd and 4th rnds in a contrasting color.

To begin, ch 4, and join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 4 to count as d c, * d c in ring, ch 1, and repeat from * 4 times more. Join last ch 1 to 3rd st of ch-4 first made. There will be 6 spokes in the wheel. 2nd rnd: Ch 5 (to count as tr), 2 tr in st from which ch-5 started, * ch 1, tr in same st, ch-3 p over this tr, ch 1, 3 tr in next d c, and repeat from * until there are 6 groups of tr. Then ch 1, tr in same st, ch-3 p over this tr, ch 1 to complete this group, and join with sl st to 4th st of ch-5 first made. 3rd rnd: Ch 5 (to count as tr), tr in same st from which ch-5 started, tr in next tr, 2 tr in last tr of this group (complete 5-tr group). Ch 5, skip the p tr, and repeat around. Join with sl st to 4th st of ch-5 first made. 4th rnd: Ch 5 (to count as tr), tr in st from which ch-5 started, tr in each of next 3 tr, 2 tr in last tr of group (7 tr in all), ch 3, s c in center st of ch-5 of previous rnd, ch 4, s c in same st, ch 3, and repeat around. Join.
Make as many motifs as required for the article desired. Place in position and with the same thread whip together the 7-tr groups. Finish the lower edge with four groups of fringe knotted between the scallops formed by the motif.
WHEEL OF FORTUNE CHAIR SET – No. 450
Most persons prefer White or Ecru for the chairback and arm pieces. Only 26 motifs are required for the entire set. This makes an inexpensive and attractive decoration for the easy chair. Follow instructions as given. Chairback has 5 motifs across the top row, 4 in 2nd row, and 3 in 3rd row. Arm pieces have a center motif with 6 surrounding it.

Because of its adaptability, this Wheel of Fortune Motif can form luncheon sets, pillow tops, table runners, dresser sets, and many other household accessories. The scarf is 5 motifs in width and 12 motifs in length. For a luncheon set, the place doilies should be 5 motifs in width and 7 motifs in length.

1 Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7
Choose one of the following threads:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen (approx. 40 balls of a light color and 50 balls of a dark color)
Clark's O.N.T. Lustersheen (approx. 30 skeins of a light color and 38 skeins of a dark color)
Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton (approx. 30 balls of a light color and 38 balls of a dark color)
This amount is sufficient for a double size spread.
Gauge: Each motif measures about 2¾ inches in diameter and requires about 9 yards of light color and about 11 yards of dark color. For a double size spread (about 91 x 107 inches), or a single size spread (about 69 x 107 inches), make the necessary amount of motifs, and then join them together to correspond with measurement.
Motif. Starting at center, with light color ch 4 and join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 4 (to count as d c and ch-1), * d c in ring, ch 1. Repeat from * 4 more times. Join last ch-1 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-4 first made (6 d c in ring). Break off. 2nd rnd: Attach dark color, ch 4 (to count as tr), 2 tr in same place as sl st, * ch 1, tr in same st, ch-3 p, ch 1, 3 tr in next d c. Repeat from * until 6 tr-groups are made. Then ch 1, tr in same st, ch-3 p, ch 1. Join with sl st to 4th st of ch-4 first made. Break off. 3rd rnd: Attach light color, ch 4, tr in same place as sl st, * tr in next tr, 2 tr in next tr (5 tr-group), ch 5, skip next tr and p, 2 tr in 1st tr of next tr-group. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-5 with sl st to 4th st of ch-4 first made. Break off. 4th rnd: Attach dark color, ch 4, tr in same place as sl st, * tr in each of next 3 tr, 2 tr in last tr (7 tr-group), ch 3, s c in center st of ch-5 of previous rnd, ch 4, s c in same st, ch 3, 2 tr in 1st tr of next tr-group. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-3 with sl st to 4th st of ch-4 first made. Break off. Place motifs in position, and with dark color sew motifs together at the 7 tr-groups on wrong side with over and over stitches. Finish the lower edge with a dark fringe in each of the 4 sps on each motif between scallops.
To Make a Fringe: Cut 4 strands, each 10 inches long. Double these strands forming a loop. Pull loop through sp on motif and draw loose ends of fringe through this loop. Pull tight. When fringe has been worked along edge, trim evenly.
