Two Toned Triumph Crocheted Rug Pattern #11

MATERIALS—Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241:—10-skeins Salmon Rose and 5-skeins Peach (or other colors). Crochet hook size H-6. Size—24" x 36".

CENTER—In Salmon Rose, ch 2, 3 sc in 1st st. Work following rows in back lps only. ROW 2—Ch 2, turn, sc in last 2 sc, 1 sc and 1 hdc in end sc. ROW 3—Ch 2, turn, 1 sc in hdc and each sc across with 1 sc and 1 hdc in end 2-ch. Repeat Row 3 five times. ROW 9—Draw Peach thru lp on hook, ch 2, turn, a 3-dc-Cluster in back lp of hdc (a puff st). Tie start­ing end of Peach to Salmon Rose and let both hang. 2 sc in next sc, (a puff st in next st, sc in next 2 sc) repeated across to 2d sc from end, 2 sc in next sc, a puff st in end 2-ch. Cut 2" long and pull thru lp tight. The wrong side of puffs is right side of rug. ROW 10—Turn, insert hook thru both lps of 1st puff st at left end, bring up Salmon Rose and pull thru, * ch 2, turn, 1 sc in same puff st, and ** going thru both lps, make (sc in 2 sc, sc in puff st) repeated across with 1 sc and 1 hdc in end puff st. Repeat Row 3 seven times in back lps only. (Each sc-row has an un­even no. of sts). Repeat from Row 9 thru 5th puff st row. Each puff st row has 6 more puff sts than previous one (31 puff sts in final row). ROW 46—Repeat Row 10 to *. Ch 1, turn, sk puff st and repeat Row 10 from ** to end of row. NEXT 2 ROWS—Ch 2, turn, 1 sc in back lps of each st across to 3d from end, sc in 2 end sc worked off together into 1 st (a decrease). Ch 1, turn, sk last sc, make sc across with 1 sc and 1 hdc in end 2-ch. Repeat these 2 rows thru 8 rows from last puff st row. PUFF ST ROW—Draw Peach thru lp on hook, ch 1, turn, sk last sc and in back loops, make a puff st in next sc. Tie yarn ends together. (Sc in 2 sc, a puff st in next st) repeated across to 2d sc from end, * 2 sc in end sc, a puff st in end 2-ch (the same no. of puff sts as in last puff st row). Cut 2" long and pull thru lp. Repeat from Row 46 thru 10th puff st row from beginning. NEXT 2 ROWS—** Repeat Row 10 to *. Ch 1, turn, sk puff st and thru both lps. Make (sc in 2 sc, sc in puff st) repeated across to 3d st from end, sc in 2 end sts worked off into 1st. Ch 1, turn, sk last sc, make sc across to 3d from end, sc in 2 end sc made into 1 st. Repeat this last row 6 times. PUFF ST ROW—Repeat last Puff St Row to * (6 less puff sts than last row). Sl st in end st and cut 2" long. Repeat from ** until corner is worked out (3 sc in final row). Ch 1, turn, sk 2 sc, sl st in next sc. Fasten off.

BORDER—2 sc in Salmon Rose in one corner, 1 sc in each row around rug with 3 sc in each corner, working over ends left from puff st rows. 1 sc in 1st corner, sl st in last sc. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in sl st, 1 sc in both lps of each sc around with 3 sc in corners. 1 sc in 1st corner, sl st in 1st sc. Repeat Row 2 once. Next repeat it 10 times working in back lps only, then repeat it twice working thru both lps. Ch 1, turn, 1 sl st in each sc around. Fasten off.

Stretch and pin rug right-side-down in true shape on a large, padded board or table. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.

FLUFF FRINGE—Wind 2 strands Peach 10 times around a ½” card. Cut at one edge. Tie a tuft to every 3d st on edge of rug and on 3d row of Border.
