On the Diagonal Crocheted Rug Pattern

MATERIALS—Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241:—3-skeins Peach, 4-skeins Cream and 6-skeins Salmon Rose (or other colors). Crochet hook size H-6. Size—22½" x 42".

In Cream, ch 7, sk last 3 sts, 4 dc on ch. ROW 2—Pull Salmon Rose through loop on hook, ch 6, turn, sk last 3 sts, 4 dc on ch. Working over Cream and starting end of Salmon Rose, sc in 3-ch of 1st shell, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp. The right side of Salmon Rose rows is right side of rug. Always carry 2d color around on wrong side at start of rows. ROW 3—Pull up Cream thru lp, ch 6, turn, sk last 3 sts, 4 dc on ch (a turning shell), and working over Salmon Rose, sc in 3-ch of last shell, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, 1 dc in sc between shells, sc in next shell, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp. Always work over 2d color, carrying it across. Keep it drawn up taut after each shell. ROW 4—Join Salmon Rose and make a turning shell, sc in next shell, (ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, 1 dc in sc, sc in next shell) twice, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp. Continue in same way, alternating colors, each row 1 shell longer, thru Row 23. ROW 24—Turn, sk last dc, sl st in next 2 dc, sk next dc, join Salmon Rose with sc in next 3-ch, fasten off Cream, (ch 3, 3 dc in same sp, 1 dc in sc, sc in next shell) 22 times, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp for final shell. ROW 25—Join Peach and make a turning shell, sc in next shell and make 22 shells across. ROW 26—Turn, sk sc and last dc, sl st in next 2 dc, join Salmon Rose with sc in next 3-ch and make 23 shells across. Re­peat Rows 25 and 23 thru Row 44. Fasten off Peach and repeat Row 25 in Cream. ROW 46—Repeat Row 26 alternately in Salmon Rose and Cream, but with 1 less shell in each row, thru Row 67 (1 Cream shell in last row). Fasten off.

EDGE—Join Salmon Rose with sc between any 2 shells, (ch 3, 1 hdc in 3d ch st with hook, drawn down tightly, sc between next 2 shells) repeated around, with an extra scallop at corners. Fasten off.

Stretch and pin right-side-down in true shape on a large, padded table or board. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.
