A"CHECKERBOARD"MATERIALS—Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241, in Red, Salmon Rose and White (or other colors). Crochet hook size H-6.

In Red, ch 28, sk last 4 sts, dc in next 4 sts. Hold last 2 lps of 4th dc on hook, draw Salmon Rose thru these 2 lps. Working over Red and starting end of Salmon Rose, make dc in next 5 sts. Hold last 2 lps on hook, draw up Red taut and thru these 2 lps. Always join new color this way—thru the final 2 lps of last st in previous color. Make 5 dc in Red on ch, draw up Salmon Rose and White. At end, join Red and ch 3. Cut White 6" long. ROW 2—Ch 2, turn, sk last dc, hdc in next 4 dc, (join Salmon Rose and make 5 hdc, join Red and make 5 hdc) twice. Join Salmon Rose and ch 3. Cut Red 6" long. ROW 3—Turn, sk last dc, dc in next 4 hdc, (join White and make 5 dc, join Salmon Rose and make 5 dc) twice. ROW 4—Repeat Row 2, alternating Salmon Rose and White. At end, join Red and ch 3. Cut White 6" long. ROW 5—Repeat Row 3, alternating Red and Salmon Rose. ROW 6—Repeat Row 2. Repeat Rows 3, 4, 5 and 6. Fasten off all ends on back. TRIM—In each Salmon Rose square in the 1st, 3d and 5th rows of squares, make a flower of 4 White French Knots. Put Red flowers in the remaining 6 Salmon Rose squares.

Steam and press dry on back. Line back and sew a bone ring to one corner.

B"ROSE O' SUMMER"MATERIALS—Lily Knitting and Crochet Cotton Yarn, Art. 600, in Cream, Tea Rose and Med. Green (or other colors). Crochet hook size 0.

In Tea Rose, ch 6, sl st in 1st st. Ch 3, 17 dc in ring, sl st in 3-ch. ROW 2—Ch 1 and in back lps only, make * 1 hdc and 1 dc in next st, 3 dc in next st, (1 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc) in next st. Repeat from * 5 times. ROW 3—(Ch 5, sc behind petal in both lps of sc between next 2 petals) 6 times. ROW 4—Ch 1, * (1 hdc, 7 dc and 1 hdc) in next 5-ch, sc in sc. Repeat from * 5 times. Fasten off. ROW 5—Join Green to back lp of one sc, * ch 4, a 3-dc-Cluster in same st, ch 3, sl st in top of Cluster for a p, ch 4, sl st at base of Cluster, ch 6, sl st behind petal in back lp of so between next 2 petals. Repeat from * 5 times. Fasten off. ROW 6—Join Cream to one 6-ch lp, ch 3, 10 dc in lp, (fold leaf down in front out of way and make 11 dc in next 6-ch) 5 times, sl st in 1st 3-ch. ROW 7—Ch 3, dc in next 4 dc, (3 dc in next dc, dc in next 10 dc) repeated around. Sl st in 1st 3-ch. ROW 8—Ch 1, 1 sc in each dc. Fasten off. ROW 9—Join Green, (ch 1, sl st in next sc) repeated around. Fasten off.

Tack tip of leaves down. On back, tack base of large petals down on small petals, and tack base of Row 6 down on large petals. STAMENS—Make a Green French Knot in flower center with long sts out to edge of center circle between petals, and a Knot at end of each. Steam and press dry on back. Line back and sew a bone ring to one corner.

C"DREAM FLOWER"MATERIALS—Lily Knitting and Crochet Cotton Yarn, Art. 600, in Tea Rose, Red and Med. Green (or other colors). Crochet hook size 0.

In Tea Rose, ch 3, 11 hdc in 1st ch st, sl st in 2-ch. ROW 2—Ch 3, dc in same st, (2 dc in next st) twice. ROW 3—Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in last dc, (2 dc in next dc) 4 times, 1 dc in end 3-ch. ROW 4—Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in last dc, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 3 times, 1 dc in end ch. ROW 5—Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in last dc, (dc in 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 3 times, dc in 2 end sts. ROW 6—Ch 3, turn, dc in last 4 dc, 2 dc in next st, hdc in 3 sts, sc in 3 sts, hdc in 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in end ch. ROW 7—Ch 1, turn, sk last dc, hdc in next st, dc in 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in 2 sts, hdc in 2 sts, sc in 3 sts, hdc in 2 sts, dc in 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in 3 sts, hdc in next st, sl st in end 3-ch. Fasten off. Turn and join to next st on center and repeat from Row 2 thru 4 petals. Fasten off. Repeat on each petal. Lap petals and sew together.

LEAF—In Green, ch 9, 1 hdc in 3d st, 1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next, (1 tr, ch 3, sl st in tr for a p, and 1 tr) in next st, 1 tr in next, 1 dc in next, 1 hdc and sl st in end st. Fasten off. Make 4. Sew one between every 2 petals.

In Green, cover center circle with French Knots. On base of each petal make 5 long sts (stamens) with a Knot at end of each.

Steam and press dry on back. Line back and sew a bone ring to one leaf.

D"BOUTONNIERE"MATERIALS—Lily Knitting and Crochet Cotton Yarn, Art. 600, in Cream, Red, Tea Rose and Med. Green (or other colors). Crochet hook size 0.

In Cream, ch 2, 7 sc in 1st st, sl st in 1st sc. ROW 2—Ch 1, sc in same st, (2 sc in next sc) 6 times, sl st in 1st 1-ch. ROW 3—Ch 1, 2 sc in next st. (1 sc in next, 2 sc in next) 6 times, sl st in 1st 1-ch. ROW 4—Ch 1, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next, (sc in 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) 6 times, sl st in 1st 1-ch. Continue for 4 more rows, with 1 more sc between widenings in each row (56 sc in Row 8). Fasten off. ROW 9—Turn, 1 sc in one st in Tea Rose, (a 2-dc-Cluster in next sc, 1 sc in next) 28 times. Fasten off. ROW 10—Turn, sl st in Cream in a Cluster, ch 3, (2 dc in next sc, 1 dc in Cluster) repeated around, sl st in 3-ch. Fasten off. ROW 11—Repeat Row 9 (42 Clusters).
